Job description

A Vacancy at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

This role will lead the national rollout of PEACS (Pain: Equality of Care and Support in the Community)—an evidence-based intervention designed to improve outcomes for people living with chronic pain, particularly in underserved communities. The postholder will oversee implementation across three pilot sites, ensuring fidelity to the PEACS model while enabling local adaptation in neighbourhoods through co-design with patients and community partners, supporting proactive, community-led approaches to prevention and care. The role will require regular travel to pilot sites to support implementation, co-design activities, and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities include developing and delivering a comprehensive implementation toolkit, coordinating multi-professional training, and embedding robust evaluation frameworks to demonstrate impact on health inequalities, patient experience, and cost-effectiveness. The role will also provide strategic leadership for prevention initiatives, supporting integrated approaches to mental and physical health.

Working across health, care, and voluntary sectors, the postholder will champion cultural humility, equity, and co-production, influence national policy and guidance on chronic pain care, and build sustainable models for scale-up and spread.

At South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, we believe in providing excellent care which is delivered with pride and compassion. Everything we do is to improve the lives of the people and communities we serve and to promote mental health and wellbeing for all.

Across King’s Health Partners (KHP), we are committed to breaking down the barriers between mental and physical healthcare. Our Mind & Body Programme, established in 2016, works to embed integrated care, research, and education across the health system—because whole person care leads to better outcomes and experiences.

This ambition is central to the King’s Health Partners Strategy to 2030, which sets out our bold vision for a reimagined health and care system, informed by people, education, research, and innovation, that truly meets the needs of patients, healthcare professionals, and communities alike.

Programme Leadership & Delivery
  • Lead the national rollout of PEACS (Pain: Equality of Care and Support in the Community) across three pilot sites, ensuring fidelity to the model while enabling local adaptation through co‑design.
  • Deliver a comprehensive implementation toolkit and multi‑professional training package to support adoption and sustainability.
  • Undertake regular site visits to pilot locations to support local delivery, build relationships, and ensure fidelity to the PEACS model.
  • Oversee programme governance, risk management, and reporting to relevant governance within King’s Health Partners and external funders (e.g., Versus Arthritis).
  • Provide cross‑cover and deputise within the Mind & Body Programme as required, ensuring continuity of delivery across multiple workstreams.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the wider Mind & Body Programme portfolio, supporting projects that improve physical health outcomes for people with serious mental illness and other long‑term conditions.
Evidence, Evaluation & Impact
  • Embed robust evaluation frameworks, including health economic analysis, equity impact assessment, and continuous improvement cycles.
  • Produce high‑quality reports, presentations, and publications to share learning and influence local, regional, and national policy.
  • Use data and insights to demonstrate impact on health inequalities, patient outcomes, and system efficiency.
  • Contribute to shared learning across the Mind & Body Programme and King’s Health Partners by supporting evaluation and dissemination of other priority projects.
Strategy & Innovation
  • Support the implementation of the Mind & Body Programme’s strategic priorities, including initiatives aligned to the KHP 2030 Strategy and integrated care transformation.
  • Align programme delivery with local, regional and national strategic priorities.
  • Shape and influence approaches to integrated care and prevention at system and national levels.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and scalability, ensuring sustainability beyond the initial funding period.
Stakeholder Engagement & Co‑Production
  • Represent the Mind & Body Programme in system‑wide forums and working groups beyond the PEACS portfolio, building relationships that enable collaborative delivery across multiple pathways.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Integrated Care Systems, community organisations, voluntary sector partners, and national bodies.
  • Champion cultural humility, equity, and co‑production in all aspects of programme design and delivery.
  • Represent the programme at regional and national forums, sharing learning and advocating for policy change.
Financial & Resource Management
  • Ensure programme delivery aligns with budgeted expectations and cost‑effectiveness targets, including oversight of implementation fidelity and resource use across pilot sites.
  • Manage programme budgets and resources in line with organisational policies and charity grant funding conditions, ensuring value for money and compliance with audit and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor expenditure and report on budget impact, including travel, training, and local adaptation costs, in collaboration with finance and evaluation partners.
  • Support the development and refinement of the implementation toolkit and training resources, ensuring they are scalable, financially sustainable, and adaptable to diverse delivery contexts.
  • Identify and secure additional funding opportunities to support scale‑up and long‑term sustainability, ensuring alignment with charitable grant conditions for third‑party support.
