Job Summary
The Clinical Consultant Practitioner (non‑medical) provides senior clinical and strategic leadership across all Nimbuscare Directorates. The postholder will work at consultant level, operating autonomously to provide expert clinical practice across services, leadership and consultancy, education, and research/service development. They will act as visible clinical leaders, line‑managing the practitioner workforce across Directorates, promoting clinical excellence, psychological safety, and learning in alignment with the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).
The role combines approximately 55 % governance, research, and service development with 45 % clinical practice. The postholder will oversee governance, PSIRF‑aligned event management, workforce development, and service improvement initiatives, working closely with Directors and Associate Directors on service and advanced practice development. This role will help drive strategic transformation, quality assurance, and support the development of the Advanced, Enhanced, and intermediate Clinical Practitioner workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead senior clinical consultancy and leadership across all urgent care services.
- Lead PSIRF‑aligned governance, investigations and learning processes to improve safety culture.
- Promote workforce transformation and ACP professional development.
- Line‑manage the practitioner workforce across Directorates.
- Drive service innovation and implementation of evidence‑based models of care.
- Support Directors and Associate Directors to deliver strategic objectives.
- Provide autonomous clinical care for complex patients, ensuring timely referral and safe prescribing.
- Lead audit, research, and service improvement initiatives.
- Provide clinical leadership, education and supervision to staff within the area of responsibility.
- Manage administrative duties including accurate medical records, coding, ReSPECT forms and advanced care planning.
- Maintain effective communication within the multidisciplinary team and external stakeholders.
Clinical Practice (45 %)
- Autonomously assess, diagnose, and manage complex presentations.
- Provide expert senior clinical support to ACPs, enhanced and intermediate practitioners, GPs, and MDT colleagues.
- Lead escalation, complex case discussions, and clinical decision‑making.
- Support safe prescribing, evidence‑based interventions and streamlined patient pathways.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately in challenging situations, advocating for person‑centred care.

Person Specification – Experience (Essential)
- Extensive clinical experience in specialty
- Has led audit and research within the service
- In a role supporting enhanced and advanced practice
- Developed standard operating procedures (SOPs) or local policies
- Can manage a highly complex caseload
- Has led service improvement initiatives
- Is able to refer independently to other MDT members
- Leads and delivers educational teaching in the speciality
- Understands how to increase governance around the ACP role
- Can lead in change management
- Has experience leading a team

Qualifications (Essential)
- Registered healthcare professional
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice with digital badge or equivalent portfolio
- Completed portfolio of professional development demonstrating an advanced level of clinical practice in line with the HEE (2017) framework for ACP
- Independent non‑medical prescribing
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Clinical Skills Level 7
- Formal research module completed at Level 7 or equivalent
- Will work towards and complete any relevant credentialing routes available and applicable to the clinical area
- Minor Illness qualification or equivalent
- Paediatric clinical skills or equivalent
Skills and Knowledge (Essential)
- Professional knowledge enabling registration with a healthcare regulatory body (e.g. NMC, HCPC)
- Significant post‑registration experience (≥5 years) in urgent care at an advanced level
- Strong leadership, IT literacy, and awareness of NHS England Consultant Practitioner Capability and Impact Framework
- Knowledge of Nimbuscare values and contribution to policy development
- Proven ability to lead research, implement service changes and provide safe, effective care
- Experience mentoring and developing staff, and participation in audit, research or service evaluation
