Job description

Site Name: UK – London – New Oxford Street, Warsaw

Posted Date:Dec 17 2025

Overview GSK’s global annual utilities and carbon credits spend are approximately £180m and £40m respectively. The utilities and carbon markets are volatile, and we are seeking an Energy Procurement Manager who will partner across the end‑to‑end supply chain to define business requirements and build a world‑class supply base that delivers high‑quality services, cost optimisation and robust risk management across both energy and carbon procurement.

This role has primary responsibility for electricity and natural gas procurement for more than one country and will also lead procurement of global carbon credits and related instruments. The successful candidate will use digital tools and analytics to inform forward buying decisions, supplier engagement, renewable energy strategies and carbon credits sourcing. They will combine deep energy procurement with strong technical skills — including market analytics platforms, trading/hedging ways of working, contract management tools, carbon credits market intelligence platforms and data visualization — to drive decisions and deliver tangible savings and sustainability outcomes.

Primary responsibilities
  • Own and manage energy contracts (electricity and natural gas) for assigned countries, including forward buying/hedging in line with GSK Energy Risk policy; use procurement systems and trading/hedging platforms to execute and document positions.
  • Lead procurement of global carbon credits and related instruments (removal, reduction and avoidance credits), managing supplier selection, contract negotiation and verification/registry requirements to meet GSK’s corporate climate and nature objectives.
  • Apply market analytics and digital tools to time supply tenders, purchase decisions and carbon credit acquisitions in price‑volatile markets; translate market signals into procurement actions.
  • Support stakeholder engagement across supply chain, finance, sustainability, site operations and legal, using dashboards and scenario modelling to ensure transparent, timely decisions. Navigate complex internal approval processes and senior stakeholder buy in to category strategy recommendations.
  • Support the Sustainability Engineering Team and the Central Sustainability Team in innovative, technology‑enabled approaches (e.g., automated tendering, algorithmic sourcing, advanced forecasting, machine learning applications) to drive savings and continuous improvement across energy and carbon procurement.
  • Chair and lead regional risk management meetings; represent Global Utilities in cross‑functional and regional forums, presenting data‑driven recommendations on energy and carbon risk.
  • Develop and implement renewable electricity procurement strategies for assigned regions, leveraging market data and procurement platforms to optimise PPA, virtual PPA and REC approaches.
  • End‑to‑end project manage the Global Renewable Electricity Certificate (REC) programme to support GSK’s 100% Renewable Electricity target, using programme management tools and governance frameworks to ensure compliance and accurate tracking.
  • Manage relationships with utilities and carbon market intelligence suppliers and technology vendors, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, actionable market data and analytics.
  • Ensure integrity of carbon credit procurement: coordinate due diligence, validation and verification, portfolio risk management and ensure alignment with recognised standards (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard etc.) and internal retirement requirements.
Additional responsibilities
  • Ensure regional risk policies and procurement governance are implemented, communicated and periodically updated; maintain digital records and audit trails for energy and carbon transactions. Lead internal audit response for Renewable Energy programmes in line with established policies and timelines.
  • Lead Energy & Carbon Council preparation: provide data‑driven analysis of current and forward energy and carbon prices, volatility metrics, market intelligence and build business cases for new projects using financial models and visualization tools.
  • Support the Global Senior Manager, Utilities, on energy, carbon and sustainability projects (including PPAs, virtual PPAs, RECs and carbon credits): develop financial analyses, funding models, and business cases; coordinate with procurement, legal, sustainability and accounting using integrated systems.
  • Drive adoption of procurement and sustainability technologies across regional teams, provide guidance on best practices for data quality, integration and reporting.
  • Monitor evolving carbon market regulations and standards and ensure GSK procurement practices remain compliant and best‑in‑class.
Qualifications and experience (core)
  • Proven experience in Procurement, including contract negotiation, hedging and supplier management ideally in a highly regulated environment.
  • Strong technology experience: working knowledge of market analytics platforms, trading/hedging systems, procurement/tendering platforms, contract lifecycle management tools, and data visualization (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) or willingness to become proficient quickly.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience building and presenting financial models and business cases.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills with proven ability to influence cross‑functional teams and senior leaders.
  • Strong project management skills; experience managing complex, cross‑regional programmes, ability to prioritise multiple tasks across various projects.
Desired skills
  • Demonstrable experience procuring carbon credits or working with carbon markets, including due diligence, verification standards and registry processes.
  • Proven experience in energy procurement (electricity and natural gas)
  • Experience delivering or supporting PPAs, virtual PPAs, RECs and carbon offset/removal projects preferred.
  • Experience with risk management frameworks and governance in volatile commodity and carbon markets.
  • Familiarity with algorithmic sourcing, advanced forecasting techniques, or machine learning applications in commodity and carbon markets.
  • Experience integrating market data feeds and procurement systems (APIs, cloud platforms).
  • Prior experience working in a large multinational environment with global procurement or utilities and carbon responsibilities.
Why GSK

You will join a global utilities and carbon procurement programme where your technology‑led approach to energy and carbon markets will have direct impact on cost management and our journey to 100% renewable electricity and credible carbon management. This is a visible, strategic role that partners across supply chain, sustainability and finance to deliver resilient, future‑ready solutions for GSK.

If you are a commercially minded procurement professional with strong technology experience and a passion for sustainability, particularly in energy and carbon markets, we’d like to hear from you.
