About the Role

The CHERISH study is designed to investigate the impact of air pollution during PE lessons on children's lung health. As part of the study children will receive health assessments (lung function) and provide mucus samples before and after they participate in an expert-led 2-hour PE session outside on the school playground. A total of 10 schools will be selected to achieve an air pollution gradient - with 5 fitting into the 'high air pollution' category and 5 in the low. Samples and data collected will be analysed to determine the differences in lung function caused by high vs. low air pollution while engaging in exercise and evaluate the changes caused by children exerting themselves during high air pollution episodes as opposed to remaining at rest while being exposed; with the aim to help advise future guidance regarding high air pollution activity.

About You

We are seeking a candidate with expertise in exercise science, physical activity or physiological testing to support the Children's HEalth, Respiratory Inflammation and SHort-term air pollution (CHERISH) study. You must have previous experience working in schools conducting health assessment. Experience of air pollution research is desirable as is previous experience handling and processing and storing human samples.

The Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH) is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to 450 staff, 100 PhD students and 500 postgraduate taught students.
