About us:

The Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences (FANS), in the School of Academic Psychiatry at the IoPPN, is one of Europe’s largest research groups and one of the few teams in the world bringing together leading experts in brain development and pro- and anti-social behaviours.We believe it is essential to investigate the determinants of normal development in order to understand abnormal behaviour (or illness). We bring together expertise in basic animal models, the latest neuroimaging techniques and the social sciences. We study the epidemiology, psychopathology, neurobiology and psychopharmacology of neurodevelopmental and externalising disorders across the lifespan.

About the role:

This post for aClinical Psychologist Lecturer in Forensic Psychologyis a part-time (7 hours per week; 20% FTE) position in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London (IoPPN-KCL), based within the Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences. The post is a maternity cover role for one academic year (October 2025 - October 2026)

The post holder will co-lead and further develop the Department’s MSc in Clinical Forensic Psychology, contributing to all aspects of the Programme’s delivery (e.g. recruitment and admissions, teaching, placement coordination and oversight) with the support of the course co-lead (a clinical psychologist), Departmental Education Lead and Head of Department. The successful candidate will lead one of the core taught Modules in the course, Forensic Psychology in Practice. This is one of the country’s few BPS accredited courses in Clinical Forensic Psychology, now entering its 19th year. The programme includes a 60 day clinical placement for all students in a relevant clinical and/or forensic setting, which the postholder will be jointly responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing in partnership with their co-lead. The post holder will be expected to deliver a consistently excellent standard of educational provision and student experience, incorporating best practice from the wider Higher Education sector, and maintaining a focus on diversity and inclusion as appropriate throughout. They will provide leadership and management of other academic staff contributing to the programme, in particular module leaders. They will act as a tutor and supervisor to post-graduate MSc students.

This is a part time post (7 hours per week; 20% FTE), and you will be offered a one year contract.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

  • DClinPsy, DForPsy or Chartered Forensic Psychologist
  • Must hold full chartered membership of the Division of Forensic Psychology within the British Psychological Society or be able to prove eligibility to hold full chartered membership.
  • Training in specialised area of psychological practice in working with adults in forensic services, with significant mental health or behavioural difficulties (with an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice).
  • Registered with HPC as a Practitioner Psychologist and evidence of continued professional development
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialized psychological assessments and interventions for adults in forensic settings and advanced knowledge of psychological assessments and clinical psychometrics
  • Expert knowledge in relevant research areas including psychological research methodology and complex statistical analysis
  • Evidence of postgraduate educational experience of teaching and supervision
  • Evidence of developing management and leadership skills
  • Active involvement in knowledge dissemination activities
  • Active links with forensic practitioners in forensic/criminal justice settings to underpin further expansion of course placement opportunities
