PA. Bringing Ingenuity to Life.

Job Description
PA’s Economics & Investment Strategy Capability

Operating at the leading edge of consulting, our multi-disciplinary teams combine deep economics expertise, industry knowledge and a structured decision-making approach to help clients understand the potential impacts, benefits and return on investment of strategic decisions. Our capability specialisms include:

  • Economics: We apply economic principles and analysis to support policy development, economic regulation and benefits appraisal, helping clients to understand long-term impacts on various markets
  • Investment Strategy: We specialise in securing investments in public sector services, infrastructure, and technology, from developing high-level strategies through to authoring business cases.
  • Modelling: We develop operational, economic and financial models to help understand the impact of various transformation options and, ultimately, guide and evidence strategic decision-making.

Our clients choose us because we challenge convention to find the solutions that really work – in practice, not just on paper. We define success as achieving exceptional results that have a lasting impact on businesses, communities and team members. It’s a principle that underpins everything we do.

Hybrid working - our approach is to be in the office or on client site a minimum of 2 days per week. However, the actual time you spend and where you spend it will vary by role or assignment, including up to 5 days per week on a client site.

Qualifications

We are hiring consultants with relevant professional experience in either a consulting role or in industry who are natural problem-solvers and constantly curious.

Candidates need to demonstrate experience in one (or more) of our capability specialisms:

  • Economics:
    • Familiarity with econometric principles
    • Economic appraisals, impact assessments, policy development or economic regulation
  • Investment Strategy:
    • Familiarity with the HM Treasury Green Book and business case approach
    • Development of large (>£100m) business cases inthe public sector
  • Modelling:
    • Development of decision-support models (operational, economic or financial)
    • Strong technical skills and proficiency in common modelling tools (e.g. Excel)
    • Organising ambiguous requirements to structure model frameworks

Core skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to simplify and present technical complexity in an accessible way
  • The ability to balance strategic, big picture problem solving with detailed analysis
  • The ability to apply sound logic, backed up with appropriate analysis, to support decision-making and recommendations
  • Proactive, collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver tangible outcomes

Our consultants are expected to be hands-on, working together with our clients to bring energy, direction and expertise to help them solve their most pressing strategic challenges. We pride ourselves in partnering alongside clients – the best way to deliver real and long-lasting value. This often means travelling to client locations to work on-site.

Flexible working – whilst we are guided by our client work and needs, you will have autonomy to manage your time and diary to suit your work/life balance.

In addition to the formal benefits set out below, we are passionate about the personal and career development of all our consultants. We are committed to providing the opportunities, support, training and coaching required at all levels to ensure our consultants can all achieve their potential.

We know the skill-gap and ‘somewhat need to tick every box’ can get in the way of meeting brilliant candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply – we’d love to hear from you.

Please be aware that some of our UK roles at PA Consulting require a UK security clearance.

All PA people are required to undergo background checks and to achieve the Baseline Personnel Security Standard however, some UK roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting, where applicants must have at least 5 years of continuous residency in the UK.
