Job description
Principal Clinical Scientist (MRI Physics)

This MRI & US Physics team at Barts Health support the Radiology MRI service, and is composed of four other full-time MRI physicists, one US physicist and two specialist INIR STP trainees.

This permanent position is an exciting opportunity for a talented state registered clinical scientist to join the team and support our ongoing work in MRI, with a particular focus for protocol development in cancer imaging, incorporating AI methods.

Radiology currently has 10 MRI scanners (including a dedicated research scanner) across five hospitals with a further scanner due this year.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will act as Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE) and support both the clinical service and clinical research, including supporting clinical trials and developing novel research projects.

The MRI physics team prides itself in its research activities and has a strong research portfolio in acquisition and analysis of speech imaging. They would also be encouraged to develop their own research interests. We have ongoing collaborations with most Institutes of the Barts Medical School and other QMUL departments.

Barts Clinical Physics takes an active role in the STP scheme and the post-holder will actively participate in the INIR training at Barts Health.

Please contact Joe Martin (Head of MRI & US Physics) joe.martin@nhs.net for further information, or to arrange an informal call/visit.

Proposed Interview date: 5/1/2026
