Job Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for an expert Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist to join our busy cardiac and congenital cardiac surgery service. The role is part of our Cardiovascular and Thoracic Care Group, a regional centre of excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert perfusion support for all cardiac surgical techniques performed on adults, including cell salvage, point of care blood analysis, deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
  • Support paediatric and ACHD cases – experience advantageous but not essential.
  • Administer on‑call rota and perform administrative duties as required.
  • Deliver high quality care within a multi‑disciplinary team and support inter‑professional collaboration.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Accreditation by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland (SPGBI) and registration with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland (CCPPGBI).
  • Experience in adult cardiac perfusion; paediatric and ACHD experience desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; empathy and compassion at the heart of patient care.
  • Ability to work autonomously, motivate and bring positivity to the team.
  • Full participation in department on‑call rota essential.
Benefits and Working Conditions

The department offers a 37.5‑hour, 3‑day working week. The Trust is offering a recruitment and retention premium totalling £5,000 p.a. (pro rata) and will support relocation.
