Package: £37,860 - £42,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).

Closing Date: 22nd August 2024

About The Role

AWE currently have excellent opportunities for Engineers of various trades to manage Engineering Qualification Trials, within our Tests & Trials team, supporting a range of AWE products at various points in their product life cycle, including surveillance of deployed systems/projects in accordance with the Company delivery Procedures through product lifecycle (cradle to grave), meeting the required project delivery plan.

The Tests and Trials team undertake strategic work to underwrite the nation’s nuclear deterrent system. The work being undertaken is essential to enable us to understand how our products will behave throughout their lifetimes. This allows us to accurately predict how the materials will age or how components will behave during its use, meaning we can be confident in our efforts to support the government’s nuclear deterrent.

The evidence from the trials will help support the qualification of our nuclear deterrent for service in the four new Dreadnought class ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) that will maintain the UK’s nuclear posture of Continuous at Sea Deterrence (CASD).

You will lead the design, manufacture, planning and delivery of a broad range of complex engineering projects, including verification and sustainment in relation to customer requirements and validation.

Who Are We looking For?

Applicants must understand mechanical design and specification with experience of use of design tools, product realisation, project delivery and manufacturing techniques.

To be considered for the role, ideally you will have an HNC/HND or degree in an Engineering discipline or proven experience working in a similar environment and possess strong communication skills.

You will possess a strong teamworking ethos, attention to detail and be delivery focused. On a day-to-day basis you can expect to liaise with a wide range of customers and delivery partners to design, develop and field trials to meet customer needs. You will be responsible for the delivery and engineering management of trials activities from end to end.

A willingness to travel within the UK and internationally to support delivery is required.

Ideally you will have demonstrable experience of working on multi-disciplined projects, and in most of the following areas:

  • Generate and manage scoping and planning documentation, and understanding of project management principals.

  • Delivery of complex engineering trials/projects through Product Lifecycle Management procedures, including configuration management and quality control.

  • Contribute to the production and delivery of high-quality technical reports and presentations and supporting technical materials.

  • Evidence of working to applicable standards.

  • Ability to construct verification, validation and qualification documents providing evidence to support customer requirements.

  • Analysis of technical data leading to the production of technical assessments

  • A good level of technical engineering knowledge with the ability to apply this knowledge to practical problems.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present across all media.

What will you get from us?

AWE has a range of benefits to suit you. These include:

  • 9-day working fortnight - every other Friday off work.

  • 208 hours of annual leave plus Bank Holidays.

  • A market leading contributory pension scheme - we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your own contribution.

  • Life insurance of 4 x your annual salary.
