Job summary
A leading healthcare provider in the UK is looking for an experienced Medical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist to oversee a specialist service for women with complex needs. The role involves providing leadership, conducting assessments, and leading treatment plans. The ideal candidate will be fully GMC registered and have experience in psychiatric rehabilitation. Education
We are seeking an experienced full‑time Medical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist for Cygnet Aspen Clinic, a 16‑bed specialist service for women with personality disorder and complex needs.
Cygnet has delivered high‑quality specialist mental health services for more than 30 years and is known for pioneering services and outstanding outcomes. Over 85 % of our services are rated Good or Outstanding by CQC.
- Provide leadership and oversee care of all ward inpatients.
- Maintain and demonstrate a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors and staff.
- Lead patient treatment plans with the multidisciplinary team.
- Assess referrals, conduct mental state examinations, investigations, diagnosis and treatment.
- Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews, clinical audits and risk assessments.
- Implement risk management and embed clinical governance within the service.
- Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals, managers hearings and attend hearings.
- Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfer and leave approvals.
- Ensure accurate patient records and maintain regular communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
- Attend academic meetings and meet CPD standards set by GMC, DoH and RCPsych.
- Participate in on‑call rota and QI & Audit initiatives.
- Salary up to £170,000 per year (depending on experience).

- Experienced in rehabilitation or general adult psychiatry.
- Knowledgeable of Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
- Excellent communicator with experience in patient assessment, treatment and record‑keeping.
- Committed to professional development and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
The successful candidate will undergo an enhanced DBS check, reference check and offer will be subject to clearance.
