Job description

An exciting has arisen for a proactive and highly organised Section Manager to join a leading university. This pivotal role will provide comprehensive administrative support across finance, HR, and research management, ensuring the smooth operation of research groups and enabling academic staff to focus on research. You will act as a key liaison between academic teams, research services, HR, and external partners, monitoring budgets, and advising on personnel processes.

Role Information

Location: Hammersmith

Contract length: Starting ASAP up until the end of February with a possible extension

Working pattern: Hybrid – 3 days on site

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor income and expenditure for research projects and departmental accounts.
  • Approve requisitions and expense claims in line with college financial regulations and provide financial guidance to academic staff and ensure compliance with purchasing rules.
  • Coordinate contract extensions, redundancy consultations, and onboarding/offboarding activities and maintain accurate personnel records and promote compliance with HR policies.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including NHS Trusts and research partners and innovate and improve administrative processes to enhance efficiency.
Ideal candidate
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with staff at all levels and external partners
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with Oracle systems and Worktribe desirable
  • Knowledge of HR processes and research grant costing advantageous
