Job summary
A multinational defense company is seeking a skilled PERL Software Developer for a role requiring on-site presence one day a month in Stevenage. The candidate should have strong proficiency in PERL, SQL, and C#, along with analytical and problem-solving skills. Key responsibilities include coding technical publication stylesheets, developing database solutions, and collaborating across teams to optimize data strategies. Knowledge of Technical Publications is a plus but not mandatory.
Qualifications
- Experience in creating and updating text-based templates for Technical Publications.
- Familiarity with the Technical Publications publishing process is advantageous.
- Experience in gathering and analyzing system requirements.

We are looking for a software developer with experience in the PERL programming language. We require someone who can create and update text‑based templates used in Technical Publications authoring and publishing tasks. Knowledge of the Technical Publications publishing process would be an advantage but not a requirement.
Assistance in updating and in some cases, creating applications and reporting tools using C#, SQL, Java and Powershell and possibly across different coding domain languages.
- Code technical publication stylesheets using PERL language
- Develop database solutions to store and retrieve company information
- Install and configure information systems to ensure functionality
- Analysing, planning, and defining data architecture framework, including security, reference data, metadata, and master data
- Migrate data from legacy systems to new solutions
- Improve system performance by conducting tests, troubleshooting and integrating new elements
- Optimize new and current database systems
- Define security and backup procedures
- Collaborating with other teams within the organisation to devise and implement data strategies, build models, and assess shareholder needs and goals
- Provide operational support for Management Information Systems
