POSITION INFORMATION
This is an Open Competitive recruitment to create an eligibility list for current and future vacancies. Successful candidates are expected to work eight (8) hours a day, five (5) days a week, and twelve (12) months per school year. Candidates must submit proof of all required documents to be considered for the recruitment process. This position is funded by the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) grant and is contingent upon the continued availability of these funds, with employment limited to the duration of the grant.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education, Training, and Experience:
Option 1:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, and;
- Five (5) years’ work experience with community organizations, school organizations, or other related organizations.
Option 2:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation in the field of Communications, Education, School Counseling or closely related field and;
- Two (2) years’ work experience with community organizations, school organizations, or other related organizations.
Program Coordination Experience is desirable.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements
- Proof of California driver’s license.
- Proof of automobile liability insurance.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this classification may work indoors and outdoors, with direct contact with the public, students, District staff, and the Community. This position requires travel which requires the employee to drive their own insured, personal automobile for transportation. While working the duties of this job, the employee works in a school and/ or classroom as needed. The employee’s primary responsibilities are working with the students and staff during the school day. May be required to work beyond regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet the demands of the position. This position may involve frequent interruptions and direct contact with staff, students, and the public; high volume of responsibilities that may require working without direct and or constant supervision; and working in a school environment where the noise level is usually moderate.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of Director of Student Services and/or administrative designee, the Community Schools Coordinator is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and monitoring school site programs that aim to close the achievement gap. In partnership with the site administrator, the Community Schools Coordinator will ensure the programs selected fulfill one or more of the following pillars: Integrated Student Supports; Family and Community Engagement; Extended Learning Time and Opportunities; and Collaborative Leadership and Practices. The Community Schools Coordinator is responsible for implementing systems, procedures and policies, monitoring projects, and maintaining program fidelity. This position is funded by the CCSPP grant and is contingent upon the continued availability of these funds, with employment limited to the duration of the grant.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The position works with the students, families, school administration and the community to survey student and community needs and coordinate resources to help families.
- Collaborate with the site principal(s), administrator(s), school counselor(s), school psychologist(s), Student Family Wellness Therapists, and other staff, students, parents, and partner agencies to spearhead community schools’ initiative efforts.
- Provide leadership and assist with identifying community partners, stakeholders and establishing the School Site Community Schools Advisory Council to create, strengthen, and maintain shared leadership to ensure needs are being met through effective program delivery that supports the District's and the CCSPP’s mission, objectives, and services expectations.
- Participate in programs and activities that promote workplace diversity and a positive employee relations environment.
- Maintain records about interactions with students and families and complete data entry as well as reports for school site or District as requested.
- Analyze data and conduct needs and assets assessment(s) by working with school administrator(s), school personnel, students, parents, and partner agencies to identify barriers to learning, available resources and gaps in services.
- Assist and support the overall social welfare and mental well-being of the student population within the District and take the appropriate actions, to determine the severity of the mental health needs of the students at the school site and makes referrals to community agencies.
- Coordinate all services that are part of community schools’ initiative that take place during and beyond the school day. Services can include, but are not limited to, expanded learning opportunities, parent/family engagement, integrated student support, and collaborative leadership.
- Identify, engage, and recruit partners and community organizations to offer programs and services for students and families based on the community needs and assets assessment.
- Develop and promote a schedule of programs and services offered at the school and in the community to students, family, and staff to advance partnerships and leverage community resources.
- Assist with the planning and preparation of outreach projects to increase awareness of students and parents regarding available services; throughout the District and/or public/private agencies/organizations.
- Assist administrators, District staff, parents, and outside mental health and social services agencies to determine effective mental health and social services for students.
- May provide referrals to community agencies.
