Job description

More than one-third of the food produced in the world is wasted. And that has a huge impact on the health of our planet, 10% of greenhouse gas emissions coming from food waste!

At Too Good To Go, we have an ambitious goal: To inspire and empower everyone to fight food waste together. We are the world's #1 app for fighting food waste. We work with thousands of restaurants and food retailers to make their surplus food available to local consumers. The magic of Too Good To Go has been spreading rapidly across Europe and now also the US, with more than 483 million meals saved globally.

We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but did we mention the issue is huge? We always want to raise the bar and that’s where you come in.

We are looking for a highly motivated and pragmatic Legal Counsel with expertise in employment law to join our Global Legal Team and help support our operations in Spain, Italy, and Portugal, while also contributing to employment-related legal initiatives globally.

This role combines regional legal expertise with global strategic thinking. You will support local employment matters (including Works Council interactions), lead documentation work, and collaborate on global policy and compliance frameworks. It’s a fantastic opportunity for a lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven scale-up environment with international exposure.

As our Global Legal Counsel you will be a part of a Global Legal Team, supporting 19 countries. You will help raise the bar on support to a hyper-growth company on a great mission and supporting our expansion strategy. The Global Legal Team has members in different European countries and in the US.

This position can be based in either Madrid or Milan. Which of these cities will be decided by where the perfect candidate is.

Your role:

  • Southern Europe Employment Law
    • Employment contracts and contract addenda
    • Bonus schemes and incentive plans
    • Mutual termination agreements and dismissal letters
    • Templates for routine employee documentation
    • Investigations and disciplinary processes
    • Employee exits and performance-related issues
  • Act as the go-to legal partner for employment law matters in Spain, Italy, and Portugal.
  • Draft, review, and maintain employment-related documentation, including:
  • Advise on day-to-day employee relations matters, such as:
  • Works Council and Labor Relations
  • Lead legal support for Works Council interactions in Spain, including:
  • Collective consultation and negotiation processes
  • Drafting and reviewing related documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with Spanish labor law and statutory requirements
  • Support for Global Legal Projects
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the localization and rollout of global policies (e.g. Flexible Work, Bonus Plans).
  • Assist with the alignment of employment documentation across jurisdictions.
  • Contribute to international legal compliance, training, and knowledge-sharing within the Global Legal Team.
  • Cross-Functional & Strategic Collaboration
  • Work closely with People & Culture teams and business stakeholders across the company.
  • Provide guidance that balances legal compliance with business scalability and pragmatism.
  • Support the implementation of scalable, future-proof employment practices aligned with the company’s values and growth plans.

Requirements:

  • You are a qualified lawyer in Spain or Italy.
  • You have several years of post-qualification experience, with strong exposure to:
  • Employment and labor law,
  • Experience over multiple jurisdictions and/or In-house legal experience or extensive external advisory work is a plus.
  • Experience from start-ups or scale-ups and hyper-growth companies is a big plus.
  • You are fully proficient in English.
  • Being fluent in Spanish and/or Italian will be strong plus.
  • You are based in Madrid or Milan (or willing to relocate)
  • Proven ability to manage Works Council processes in Spain.
  • Experience with immigration and international mobility topics (relocation, global transfers, permits) is a strong asset.
  • Excellent legal drafting and communication skills.
  • You have a proactive, positive and solution oriented mindset.
  • You are a strong team player but also have the ability to work independently.
  • You have a true passion for sustainability - you understand the urgency of action for the planet.
  • Previous knowledge in food and beverage laws and regulations is a plus.

Our values:

  • We win together
  • We raise the bar
  • We keep it simple.
  • We build a legacy

What we have to offer:

  • A rare opportunity to work in a global social impact company (and certified B Corporation) where you get to wake up every day knowing you’re achieving positive change.
  • The experience of being part of an international company with more than 1350 enthusiastic and highly talented teammates across 19 countries and counting – always ready to share knowledge and support!
  • Strong personal as well as professional development in an intense and high-growth scale-up environment.
  • A possibility to be influential in a fairly new company with few predefined processes.
  • An open company culture where you have room for independence and creativity.
  • A strong team culture where successes are celebrated together.
