An international automotive group in Madrid is looking for a System Architect to define and communicate a shared technical vision for the Retail of the Future program. This role requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science and at least 5 years of software development experience, including leadership skills. The ideal candidate should be fluent in English, possess deep technical knowledge, and have a collaborative mindset for working with cross-functional teams. We are looking for a

System Architect

to join our team!

The System Architect is responsible for defining and communicating a shared technical and architectural vision for solutions developed within the Retail of the Future program.

This vision has to be aligned with the overall architectural vision coming from the Retail of the future program and the overall EA principles and guidelines of Mercedes-Benz. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the successful implementation of retail of the future.

Ensure execution of technical strategy for the Retail of the Future application landscape, focusing on development efficiency and reusability of components in a blueprint approach for rapid multi-market rollouts.

Act as technical advisor for internal and external development teams, collaborating with other architects and business partners / stakeholders.

Define non-functional requirements for secure and reliable operations, including test strategy execution.

Optimize solutions by anticipating customer feedback and evaluating operational metrics.

Assess solutions for technical integrity, feasibility, and risk, and define required actions.

Contribute to organization-wide engineering and architecture guidelines.

Foster a team's understanding of vision, principles, and strategy, encouraging constructive discussions for best results.

Evaluate and integrate trends and innovations into the technical landscape.

Establish and enforce architecture governance, standards, and best practices.

Lead change initiatives and manage architectural transitions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or STEM related field.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development with at least 2-3 years of experience in a leadership or advisory role.

Certifications such as AWS Certified Architect or alternatives are preferred

Extensive professional experience in state-of-the-art software development environments as a developer and / or architect of distributed, scalable cloud-native applications. Profound knowledge in :

  • Software architectures (Microservices, Domain Driven Design, Event Driven Architectures)
  • Programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript)
  • Modern development tools (Git, GitHub)
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • DevOps practices (CI / CD, Jenkins, SonarQube, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
  • Risk management and mitigation strategies
  • Designing secure, extensible, and cloud-native solutions
  • Compliance & security, with a security-driven mindset
Enterprise integration and governance

Proven track record in leading and advising technical teams on software development projects, with extensive knowledge and practical experience in cloud computing and software engineering.

Experience in defining and implementing technical strategies for large-scale applications.

Demonstrated experience with architectural complexity by defining maintainable solutions for complex use-cases, including knowledge of frameworks and adjacent systems.

Strong understanding and experience in leading agile teams and swarms in IT. (Experience in SAFE framework environments is a plus.)

Collaboration with cross-functional teams (software engineers, DevOps, QA, business stakeholders).

Mentoring talent, acting as a role model for others.

Overview of trends and innovation, running evaluations to adapt them into working scope. Experience in complex multi-stakeholder environments.

Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Knowledge of the German language is a plus.
