The Faculty of Medicine of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Center of Hygiene, Institute for Medical Virology, invites applications for the following position as civil servant or public employee starting as soon as possible:

Willy Robert Pitzer Professor (W2) in Molecular Virology of Human Pathogenic
RNA Viruses supported by the State of Hesse in the LOEWE-Program

The professorship is part of the Institute of Medical Virology. The institute offers excellent research conditions in an interdisciplinary environment, including well-equipped BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories. The professorship adds a new complementary field to the existing research focuses.

We are looking for an outstanding and integrative personality with extensive documented experience in virus immunology, particularly in respiratory and other RNA viruses. The research focus should be on immune responses to respiratory viruses, the pathogenesis of RNA viruses, and/or virus‑induced effects on tissue function (e.g., through immunity or interactions with the endothelium). However, the professorship is also open to innovative research projects relating to experimental virology such as AI‑based respiratory RNA‑virus research.

Requirements for appointment include in addition to the general provisions of civil service law a completed degree in natural sciences or human medicine, a doctorate (PhD or equivalent), and further academic achievements (e.g., habilitation, habilitation‑equivalent achievements), as well as an internationally outstanding research profile with an exceptional publication record and high international visibility in the field of virus immunology, along with corresponding third‑party funding (e.g., DFG, EU, BMBF). Several years of experience in leading an independent research group is required. Active participation in current and planned collaborative research initiatives at Goethe University, particularly the Excellence Cluster CPI (Cardio‑Pulmonary Institute), is expected. We also expect extensive experience and commitment to interdisciplinary teaching.
