Position Overview

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about education, possess a Master of Education (M.Ed.) or Master of Arts (M.A.), and are Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Candidates should have a strong background in academic support, IT literacy, and customer service competencies.

As a Counselling/Psychology Instructor at the Vancouver College of Counsellor Training (VCCT), you will play an essential role in delivering high-quality, student-centered education across all modes of delivery (on-campus, online, hybrid, and self-paced formats). Instructors are expected to model professional and ethical standards consistent with the counselling profession while supporting students in both academic and personal growth.

Key Teaching Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, evidence-informed instruction in all courses offered within the Counselling and Psychology programs.
  • Facilitate learning using a variety of instructional modalities, including synchronous and asynchronous online platforms, hybrid models, and in-person classrooms.
  • Ensure alignment with course objectives, regulatory standards, and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, activities, and assessments via Canvas.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently, submitting grades through Canvas within institutional timelines.
Student Support and Engagement
  • Be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. to support learners across various class schedules (availability includes evenings and flexible daytime hours).
  • Conduct academic coaching sessions and provide supplemental instruction or tutoring as required.
  • Encourage active student participation and foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
  • Support students in developing clinical competencies, including ethical decision-making, therapeutic techniques, and reflective practice.
Program and Institutional Responsibilities
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all current VCCT Counselling and Psychology course offerings and curricular updates.
  • Contribute to curriculum review, course development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold academic integrity and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in instructor meetings, professional development sessions, and institutional events.
  • Mentor practicum students, supervise skills development, and evaluate clinical readiness as applicable.
Administrative and Technical Duties
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, student communications, and assessment documentation.
  • Utilize the Canvas LMS and Microsoft Teams for course delivery, student communication, and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Troubleshoot basic technical issues and assist students in navigating online learning platforms.
  • Support the academic coordination team with student progress reports and intervention strategies as needed.
  • Maintain professional, timely communication with students and staff exclusively through official VCCT platforms (e.g., Canvas, Microsoft Teams, institutional email).
Professional and Ethical Conduct
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and commitment to student success in all interactions.
  • Model cultural humility and trauma-informed approaches in both teaching and interpersonal engagement.
  • Maintain active RCC registration and fulfill ongoing professional development requirements.
  • Present a professional appearance, including appropriate business or business-casual attire, when teaching on campus or representing VCCT.
  • Adhere to VCCTs policies, values, and mission in all instructional and collegial responsibilities.
  • Located in BC and able to commute during all time of contract.
Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Education (M.Ed.) or Arts (M.A.) from a recognized Canadian institution (equivalent international degrees will be considered).
  • Bachelor in Counselling / Psychology.
  • Current Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
  • At least 5 years of counselling experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service and learner engagement.
  • High level of IT literacy, including proficiency with:
    • Learning Management Systems (preferably Canvas),
    • Microsoft Teams and online communication tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic software and hardware issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both in-person and virtual settings.
  • Willingness to complete Academy of Learning Facilitator Certification, including successful exam completion within a specified timeframe.
  • Must be located within the Vancouver area, with a reliable form of transportation, or planning to relocate before start date.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working with adult learners in post-secondary or continuing education environments.
  • Background in private career colleges, particularly in a facilitator or teaching assistant role.
  • Understanding of the unique needs of adult and returning students.
Minimum Instructor Qualifications (As per regulatory guidelines)
  • A certificate, diploma, or post-secondary degree relevant to the subject area plus two years of full-time work experience in a related field, OR
  • Ten years of full-time work experience in a career directly related to the subject matter.
