We are looking for a Software Engineer with experience in optimizing cloud infrastructure & distributed systems to join our Capacity Engineering team. We enable Affirm to build and scale our infrastructure globally in an efficient, developer-friendly, cost-effective, resilient, performant, and secure manner, ensuring we uphold our SLA commitments. Our work involves developing and maintaining distributed load-testing frameworks, scaling for peak seasons, capacity modeling, tuning, and fostering a fun work environment!

What You'll Do

• Collaborate with your team’s tech lead and manager to break down projects into tasks, deliver in phases, and ensure timely completion.
• Support product development by working with product management, design, and analytics, participating in ideation, and making technical decisions considering risks and trade-offs.
• Maintain the availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues, and supporting operational efforts.
• Promote team community through growth activities like participating in interviews.
• Assist in right-sizing compute and data workloads for high availability and cost efficiency.
• Work with other infrastructure and product teams to provide guidance on capacity tuning, performance optimization, and testing.

What We Look For

• At least 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems, proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to develop solutions that interact with multiple software components, with well-tested, clear, and extensible code.
• Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging, and conducting code reviews.
• Proactive in personal growth, seeking feedback and learning opportunities.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with a global team.

Pay Grade - L

Equity Grade - 5

Base pay ranges from $125,000 to $175,000 annually, with additional benefits including stipends, health coverage, and equity rewards.

Affirm is a remote-first company, allowing most roles to be performed remotely within the country of employment, with some roles requiring occasional office presence.
