Sr Data QA Engineer

GavinHeath is partnering with a client in Ontario, Canada looking to add a Sr. Data QA Engineer to their team. The role is a Direct Hire position. Candidates must be residents in the Province of Ontario, this role is 100% remote.

As a Sr Data QA Engineer, you will ensure the accuracy and reliability of data across data warehousing, Lakehouse, and reporting platforms. This role involves developing and executing test strategies for data pipelines, transformations, and dashboards while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations in all testing activities.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers, Business Analysts, and stakeholders in Agile environments to align testing with business objectives.
• Stay updated with industry trends and suggest process improvements; mentor junior QA engineers as needed.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated skills developing advanced SQL queries for data validation, testing, and query optimization.
• Solid experience implementing automated testing for data pipelines, transformations, and reporting tools using appropriate frameworks.
• Ability to manage test data across environments, ensuring timely refresh cycles and proper data configuration.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Strong understanding of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis abilities.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and time-management skills.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written); ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical people.

Education And Experience:

• 5-8 Years of experience in Software QA, with a strong focus on data validation and automation testing.
• Strong expertise in ETL testing, data quality frameworks, and advanced SQL is a MUST.
• Proficiency in tools like Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, and experience with scripting in Python or PySpark.
• Familiarity with Data Lakehouse architectures, large datasets, and reporting tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Experience in test automation and Agile development methodologies.
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
• Thorough understanding and hands-on experience with data integration, ETL processes, incremental loads, and transformations in data warehouses.
• Experience testing reports and dashboards in tools like Power BI for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with business requirements.
• Extensive experience performing data validation, comparisons, and quality assurance, ensuring consistency and correctness across staging, transformations, and final data outputs.
• Experience executing end-to-end data pipelines, identifying and resolving issues while optimizing performance.
