Mandate
The Research Finance unit manages, coordinates, processes, and oversees both externally and internally funded research grants. This unit liaises with funding agencies on behalf of UVic researchers and administers research grants and awards in coordination with Accounting Services. Under the direction of the Research Finances Officer (RFO), the Post Award Support Coordinator (PASC) is responsible for the day-to-day administrative and operational activities of the Research Finance unit and serves as the main point of contact for faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students in the areas of external and internal funded research grants. The PASC is responsible for assisting the administration of internal and external post-award processes and internal grants. The PASC provides support in compliance with both UVic and the funding agency policies and procedures, including funder terms and conditions.
Objectives
- Provides effective coordination of research finance administration and post-award support for faculty researchers and graduate students.
- Coordinates adjudication process on relevant internal awards, including interpreting regulations and procedures, and accurately conveying information to faculty and students.
- Assists in administering VPRI budget portfolio.
- Interprets agency policies, terms and conditions.
- Manages the workflow for the unit through the Ticket Dynamix ticketing system.
The PASC effectively coordinates administration and operation of the research finance systems and processes with faculty and other research operations (pre-award; contracts; ethics; research accounting) in resolving issues and working collaboratively to improve systems and processes. The PASC works mainly self-directed with direction provided by the RFO as needed. The PASC will also provide support to the Research Finance Accountant and Associate Director Research Finance in the oversight of the administration of OVPRI and Research Centre budgets as needed.
This position requires critical thinking skills with the ability to gather, interpret and synthesize information from a multitude of diverse sources.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 1 year of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. A degree in business, finance or accounting and experience in a research environment at a higher education, institutional setting or grant funding agency is considered an asset.

- An understanding of UVic research/university policies, procedures, systems, and budgets is considered an asset. For example, university systems such as FAST Finance, Journal Voucher, WebReq, Chrome River, Team Dynamix and RAIS.
