What will you be doing!
  • Performing health center nursing activities in the delivery of medical services, on-site medical emergency response, radiological medical response, first aid treatments, occupational immunization, fitness for duty, vision screening, communicable disease prevention and management, ergonomic support from a medical perspective, etc.
  • Assisting with disability management program by assessing the broad spectrum of client needs, including physical and psychological factors and identifying client (employee and employer) goals, objectives and actions to develop comprehensive case management plans that achieve desired outcomes within designated time frames.
  • Being accountable for the progression of disability claims cases and coordinating interventions with internal and external parties.
  • Facilitating and coordinating safe and timely return-to-work opportunities for recovering ill or injured employees.
  • Coordinating the management of communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases to control outbreaks and exposures.
  • Collecting and analyzing usage statistics for compliance with flu campaign, staff vaccinations, and the status of departments (e.g. vaccinations of staff).
  • Co-participating in the planning of the public flu vaccination program with health centre staff and volunteers.
  • Delivering First Aid services to employees to treat staff illnesses and injuries (e.g. Band-Aids, analgesics, ice, etc.)
  • Developing, coordinating, and delivering health promotion projects, workshops, training, and activities that address employees' needs, thereby enhancing productivity, fostering supportive work environments, and reducing benefit utilization and costs.
  • Providing information and any required medical preparation, including immunization, for deployed employees.
  • Supporting the safety program from a medical perspective.
  • Collecting and managing medical, highly confidential, sensitive and personal information required for the management of absences, accommodation, health and safety issues and harassment and discrimination complaints.
  • Collecting statistics and information concerning short and long-term absences, work-related injuries and illnesses, communicable diseases, accommodation requests, and work-climate and health and safety issues.
  • Developing and leading workshops related to important occupational health issues. Acts as a resource person for various committees.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • Degree in Nursing and a registered active member in good standing with the Ontario College of Registered Nurses with specialization in Occupational Health Certification in Occupational Health Nursing.
    • Driver’s license and/or access to transportation to travel to Deep River sites at own expense required.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience as a registered nurse in an occupational health and safety setting, including experience with disability management and accommodation in a complex organization.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Must have excellent professional, organizational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage the day-to‑day operations within an ever‑changing work environment.
    • Demonstrated ability in writing concise reports, preparing project plans, conducting workshops and giving presentations.
    • Ability to coach line management on attendance, accommodation and disability management‑related issues.
    • Demonstrated conflict resolution experience and ability to persuade or influence individuals to change.
    • Extensive working knowledge and application of Canada Labour Code and its respective regulations, Privacy Act, Canadian Human Rights Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulated Health Professional Act, Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, etc.
    • Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Act and Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) policies is an asset.
    • An excellent understanding of Industrial Emergency Scene Management and the First Aid Program is essential.
    • Knowledge and understanding of appropriate responses to radiological incidents/injuries are assets.
    • Knowledge and experience with computer software, including Microsoft Office/Outlook/Word/Excel/Access, and applicable hearing test software.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
  • Must be available for on‑call support as required.
  • Daily work is performed indoors in regular, well‑maintained work buildings within the Health Centre, in a clinical office setting, with both office and clinical equipment usage/handling/monitoring required.
  • Walking/ambulating up to 500m at a time outdoors in all weather conditions to support drills and emergency response.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Drills and emergency response work may be required on any given day, in all possible weather conditions (PPE & C and extreme‑weather clothing provided).
  • Able to carry an emergency response backpack and equipment as necessary.
  • Standing and sitting are both required for long durations each day.
  • Safe handling of biological and chemical products in the performance of Health Centre activities such as medical care, wound care, phlebotomy, handling sharps, electrical and emergency response equipment, biological samples, less‑than‑ideal emergency response settings and occasional work during drills and emergencies in varying extreme weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear and perform duties in PPE & C, including N95 or radiological respirator and extreme weather clothing.
