Calian Health is seeking a full-time Occupational Health Services Technologist with an interest to provide health services to Canadian Armed Forces members in their exclusive outpatient clinic located on Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, BC. Occupational Health Services Technologists possess specialized expertise, knowledge, and skills in the areas of occupational health and safety. Their main roles are to develop and deliver programs that will assist in conserving life, health and property. This is accomplished through the identification of health and safety hazards in the work environment and recommending corrective action. The Occupational Health Services Technologist functions as part of the healthcare team by performing inspections of DND facilities based on established schedules to monitor compliance with laws, regulations, and policies and preparing reports outlining status and recommended courses of action. Occupational Health Services Technologists are required to wear appropriate PPE in order to perform duties in a safe manner.

• Conduct occupational health surveys and inspections related to the Canadian Forces Respiratory Protection Program (DAOD 5021-1 http://www.admfincs-smafinsm.forces.gc.ca/dao-doa/5000/5021-1-eng.asp)
• Conduct work site occupational health walk‑through, surveillance, and compliance inspections at DND and CF facilities
• Collect samples (air, soil, etc.) and perform laboratory analysis
• Interpret and analyze sampling data
• Liaise with accredited analytical laboratories and government/regulatory agencies
• Recommend administrative and engineering controls to ensure compliance with the Canada Labour Code
• Prepare and submit occupational health survey reports within 30 calendar days of inspection
• Provide information and recommendations to senior medical authority on occupational health matters
• Participate in briefings to senior management
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain occupational health sampling equipment and lab equipment
• Maintain and order occupational health related products and consumables
• Work may involve French and/or English language usage, high noise levels, heat, cold, and wet/slippery conditions
• Handle both expendable and non‑expendable PPE as per DND policy, including fit testing for full‑face respirators
• Be prepared to travel locally and to other locations within the unit’s area of responsibility
• Carry out other related tasks relevant to this occupational group

• Written reports on evidence‑based injury prevention programs, policies, standards, and guidelines with literature search methodology
• Printable educational material such as information sheets, brochures, and articles using simple language for military personnel
• Injury prevention educational material adapted to military personnel (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, participant manuals)
• Reports on the impact of injury prevention and active living education sessions delivered to health promotion personnel and military members
• Written reports with recommendations for injury prevention and active living programs
• Written progress reports each week of the month based on the approved work plan

• A certification in occupational health and safety: Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, USA; Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT) with the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists; or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or Conseil canadien d’agrement des hygienists du travail (CCAHT)
• A valid provincial driver’s licence (prepared to use a private vehicle as needed)
• Two years of experience delivering occupational health and safety services within an environmental health program as an Occupational Health Services Technologist
• Experience applying federal and provincial environmental health and occupational health and safety legislation
• Experience carrying out environmental or occupational health and safety investigations
• Experience writing technical reports on environmental, occupational health, and safety topics

Must be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
