We’re scientists, engineers, and business professionals who work together to turn scientific insights into breakthrough medicines. We pursue truth and scientific rigor. We think independently, act with conviction, and have the courage to work at the edge of the unknown. We offer the opportunity to stretch and explore, and to work on things that matter.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Utilities Systems Operator to join our Facilities and Engineering team, playing a key role in the start-up, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of critical utilities systems in our new GMP manufacturing facility. In this role, based in beautiful Vancouver, you will work closely with manufacturing operations, process engineering, quality and other technical operations functions. You will act as a Boiler Power Engineer, as defined by Technical Safety BC, for our new GMP manufacturing facility.

How you might spend your days
  • Providing technical support operating our boilers and process vessels in compliance with the Technical Safety BC
  • Supporting the day-to-day safe and reliable monitoring and operation of all utilities equipment/systems (e.g. boilers, chillers, air handling units, water for injection, compressed air, clean gasses, etc.), including attendance to alarm in our building management system
  • Carrying out work order relating to routine maintenance and planned repair activities for utilities equipment through CMMS e-system
  • Performing shutdown and restart of utilities systems during major maintenance activities or unplanned power outage in accordance with internal safety and quality requirements
  • Providing technical support, troubleshooting, and problem-solving solutions for utilities systems interfacing with manufacturing process and quality control equipment
  • Providing recommendations for improvements on operations of utilities and base building equipment
  • May be asked to perform shift work based on company business needs and to ensure minimal downtime of facilities
We’d love to hear from you if
  • You have 4-6 years experience in a manufacturing plant operation (steam plant, production, maintenance, quality, safety, and environmental compliance) or similar industry or a Bachelor\'s degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience
  • You have a valid Technical Safety BC Class V Power Engineering certificate or higher
  • You have knowledge and/or experience on base utilities equipment such as Boiler, Chiller, AHU, and Gases. Hands-on experience in GMP clean utilities (e.g. Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water System, Water for Injection, Clean Compressed air, etc.) would be desirable.
  • You have a strong mechanical aptitude, electrical knowledge and you are able to perform/supervise routine maintenance and repair tasks
  • You have a strong operational acumen with experience in risk management, and can prioritize science and engineering approaches to prevent process downtime
  • You are passionate about building dynamic new teams and capabilities that accomplish important goals
  • You are a creative and innovative thinker, with the ability to identify potential issues before they arise
What we offer

AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is $60,600 - $75,700 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.

You will have a CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual vacation, professional development opportunities, and comprehensive health benefits. Scientific and technical mentorship is a priority. And you’ll find we prioritize teams and social groups to build community and connections across AbCellera.
