The Registered Nurse On‑Call Sexual Assault Service provides nursing care within an interdisciplinary setting to survivors of sexual assault. The RN offers counseling and support to survivors and assists the Sexual Assault Service physician in collecting forensic evidence.

Candidates must have availability for several 24‑hour on‑call shifts per month. The majority of cases are seen between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am.

• Assess the emotional and physical status of clients.
• Collect data and explain treatment options.
• Provide crisis counseling and client support. Facilitate involvement of community advocacy groups (e.g., WAVA‑W).
• Assist physicians with medical/pelvic examinations.
• Collect forensic specimens from clients as required.
• Package and label specimens for forensic evidence.
• Document accurately and in detail the client’s medical history, physical and emotional status, and nursing interventions.
• Maintain documents for court evidence.
• Participate in health education of clients.
• Appear in court if required.
• Educate other professionals regarding sexual assault and the sexual assault team.
• Collaborate with team members to provide optimal patient care.

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
• Current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
• Minimum three (3) years of relevant clinical experience (e.g., gynecology, obstetrics, STD, public health, emergency, women’s health).
• Interest and commitment to caring for survivors of sexual assault.
• Ability to work closely with physicians in a team setting.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with community groups.

Wage: $41.42 to $59.52/hour
