Blackout Art Society is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to platforming immigrant and refugee voices through inclusive, socially engaged theatre. Our work includes year-round programming andl, fostering artistic collaboration, dialogue, and community-building across cultural lines.
We are seeking a dynamic and organized Community Relations Associate to support and coordinate our outreach and engagement efforts. This role involves building relationships with community partners, recruiting participants, and helping increase the visibility and accessibility of our programs—especially among immigrant, newcomer, and BIPOC communities.
- Build and maintain relationships with local cultural groups, schools, libraries, and community organizations
- Coordinate outreach for events, workshops, and festival activities
- Recruit and engage participants for public programs, including community meals, talkbacks, and artist panels
- Support the development of accessible communication materials (flyers, community emails, social media support)
- Attend and represent Blackout Art Society at community events
- Maintain outreach records and contact databases
- Collaborate with the marketing and production teams to align outreach with programming goals
- Contribute ideas for inclusive audience development and engagement strategies
- 2+ years of experience in community outreach, engagement, or event coordination (formal or informal)
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage timelines and relationships
- Familiarity with Vancouver’s immigrant and/or refugee communities is a major asset
- Experience with email tools, Google Workspace, and social media is helpful
- Multilingual abilities are a plus, but not required
- Availability for occasional evening/weekend events
