A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Orthopaedic Technician to join their Emergency Department in Calgary. The role involves applying and adjusting equipment for orthopaedic patients while utilizing strong assessment and interpersonal skills. Candidates must hold an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education and Orthopaedic Technician certification. This is a part-time position with a focus on providing quality patient-centered care, reflecting the organization’s values.
The Rockyview General Hospital Emergency Department Orthopedic Tech (RGH ED Ortho Tech) demonstrates excellence with interpersonal communication skills as well as with written documentation. They are reliable, motivated, self-directed, and able to work in a stressful, dynamic environment. The RGH ED Ortho Tech possesses knowledge unique to the orthopedic patient and performs a variety of highly specialized skills with supervision for this population and practices as a full scope LPN within the boundaries of the Emergency Department expectations. They demonstrate strong assessment skills, is able to critically think through a situation and prioritizes care based on these factors. The RGH ED Ortho Tech practices within the Patient and Family Centered Care model and is sensitive to the needs of patients and families.
As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Minimum one year full-time equivalent scope LPN experience in required. Registered Orthopedic Technologist certification required.
Current Calgary Zone Emergency ROT position preferred, other Emergency/UC nursing experience will be considered.
