What you’ll be doing

CIBC Global Asset Management (CGAM) is one of Canada's largest asset management firms with approximately $300 billion in assets under management and possess over forty-five years of experience designing and implementing client solutions. We are leaders in providing a broad range of high-quality global investment management solutions to retail and institutional clients.

Our assets include those under institutional money management for pension funds, endowments and insurance funds, private wealth management, and those that are part of the CIBC family of mutual funds such as CIBC Mutual Funds and Renaissance Investments family of funds and the CIBC family of managed portfolio solutions such as Managed Portfolio Services (MPS), Personal Portfolio Services (PPS), Frontiers Pools, Axiom Portfolios.

At CIBC, our goal is to help our clients achieve what matters to them. Our philosophy is based on the CIBC values of Trust, Teamwork, and Accountability and we achieve results for our clients through an in-depth disciplined investing approach based on rigor and research.

Reporting to a Sr. fixed income portfolio manager, this role is responsible for identifying, constructing, and managing a range of innovative Best in Class investment solutions that make a significant contribution to CGAM'S global Fixed Income platform.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How you’ll succeed
  • Portfolio Management: Develop and implement an innovative institutional quality global multi-sector fixed income investment solution. Strategy to encompass allocations to, inter alia, developed market sovereign debt, emerging market debt, investment grade and high yield corporate debt, securitized assets, and active currency management. Once implemented, act as a portfolio manager with responsibility for risk management and dynamic capital allocation across the various investment strategies. Ensure the developed strategy is diversifying, accretive, and has the requisite performance features to drive client demand, and complementary to the firm’s existing fixed income capabilities. Design and build supporting risk management and portfolio construction infrastructure in partnership with quantitative team colleagues.

  • Strategy Innovation: Identify and collaborate with CGAM colleagues to design, launch, and manage innovative and diversifying ‘quantamental’ absolute return investment strategies.

  • Business Development Activities: Provide support to the firm’s Business Development activities in the build-out of world class global fixed income solutions. To include participation at conferences, webinars, podcasts, and meetings, as well as authorship of relevant white paper research notes.

  • Team Support & Collaboration: Support and mentor PMs across CGAM’s investment teams in the design of enhancements to their investment processes and risk management and portfolio construction infrastructure and procedures. Actively mentor less experienced PMs to ensure CGAM portfolio management practices are consistently Best in Class.

Who you are
  • You have an undergraduate degree; a graduate degree in business, finance and/or economics is desired. CFA designation required. Designation by OSC as an Advising Representative is required.

  • You can demonstrate your experience. 15+ years of relevant experience as a senior investment professional with advanced knowledge of capital markets and rigorous portfolio and risk management expertise across a range of asset classes. Demonstrated ability to deliver consistently strong investment performance across different market environments. A well-respected and known professional in Canada’s investment industry who understands the investment needs of a range of clients.

  • You know that details matter. You notice things that others don't. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making. Innovative and creative thinker motivated to identify a pipeline of commercially attractive and differentiating investment opportunities. Excellent problem solving and critical thinking with strong attention to detail, able to accurately identify a problem’s source, severity, and impact to determine possible solutions and required resources. You’re goal oriented and willing to accept that hands‑on work is required given the comparatively flat nature of the organization. You will continually strive for Best in Class performance standards, and will embrace the importance of continuous improvement and proactively seek improvements in both your particular area of expertise as well as across the entire business and instill these high standards within your day‑to‑day work. Able to consistently meet deadlines and to work under pressure.

  • You are motivated by collective success. Collaborative team player willing to regularly contribute to team and firm initiatives and successes to ensure our firm can differentiate itself through the provision of distinctive, world‑class investor solutions, service, and communication. Willingness and ability to coach and mentor less experienced colleagues. Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities. Ability to understand, conceptualize and implement business processes to ensure successful achievement of accountabilities. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Able to concisely explain highly technical information to audiences with varying technical expertise.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork, and accountability. You will exude integrity, embrace a fiduciary culture and act in the best interests of investors who have chosen CGAM as a steward of their investments. You will conduct business in accordance with the highest legal and ethical standards.

  • You're fluent in French and English to serve our clients in the community.
