We seek an enthusiastic, team-oriented Environmental Scientistto join our Assessment and Remediationteam in at either AECOM’s Mississauga, Markham, or Kitchener office with hybrid work permitted. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse and meaningful projects across the industrial, mining, waste management, oil and gas, municipal, provincial, and federal sectors working with multi-discipline engineering teams.
The role will be a combination of project management, job scoping and technical work delivery, though the work can/may vary based on the applicant’s experience and career aspirations.
This position is ideally suited to an Intermediate Environmental Professional with technical and developing project management strengths and experience in Phase I/One and Phase II/Two ESAs, Remediation and Excess Soil Planning projects.
This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, budgeting, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team.
The successful candidate will rigorously apply safety policies and procedures and will effectively manage the quality of field efforts and project deliverables within the bounds of the AECOM Quality Management System.
Key Responsibilities
Provide developing project management experience on environmental assessment, on-site and excess soil management and remediation projects.
Support project performance, ensuring compliance with scope, budget, and schedule.
Support the development of proposals and budgets for new opportunities and for bid solicitation requests for proposal (RFP) and request for tender (RFT).
Serve as the XBL liaison, ensuring strong relationships and high satisfaction.
Communicate regularly AECOM internal technical teams (ie. geotechnical, hydrogeological, civil, water, transportation and structural) and subcontractors.
Support the preparation of technical reports, regulatory submittals, and project documentation.
Mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
Supervise subcontractors, field staff, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
Exhibit personal safety leadership in all aspects of project execution.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical, Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
Minimum +two (2) years of experience in contaminated sites, environmental remediation and/or reclamation projects.
Proposal writing, job scoping and project plans.
Familiarity with local, provincial and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements, particularly the Ontario Regulation 153/04 and 406/19 Excess Soil.
Developing experience coordination of Phase I, II, and III Environmental Site Assessments.
Valid driver’s license.
Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of relevant industry experience.
Eligible for Professional designation (P.Eng. or P.Geo.) in Ontario or the ability to become a Qualified Person, Environmental Site Assessment (QPESA), as per Ontario Regulation 153/04.
Experience with regulatory applications and documentation in Ontario.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and client management abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word.
Willingness to adopt and learn digital tools, including AI-based solutions.
Positive, proactive attitude and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
