The Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co-ordinate, and administer housing programs to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.
The position provides accounting services such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue operations, analyses, reports, financial advice and support to clients, and other assigned administrative duties. Work is performed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, financial and applicable legislation, policies, procedures, control processes and collective agreement to ensure quality financial and client services, and the financial and service goals of the Government of Nunavut. The work performed impacts timely and correct payments to employees and suppliers, the secure handling and deposit of revenues, accurate financial reports for management decision-making, the reputation of the Corporation and the ultimately the Government of Nunavut. The position provides financial expertise and delivers training to Corporation employees on the correct interpretation and application of financial legislation, policy, and processes, and advises program managers on a wide range of accounting, budget, program, contracting, Grants and Contributions, payroll, or other issues. Finally, the position is responsible to enter data in various systems from a variety of source documents and determine appropriate accounts, coding, as well as verify that sufficient funds are available.
The successful candidate requires completion of a college diploma in a related field and have a minimum of 2 years of relevant finance experience in a computerized environment. The candidate must have experience in providing advisory services to clients and must be able to work effectively with financial systems and other databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs and produce accurate financial reports and documents.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
