This hands-on role ensures the safe operation of vehicles through routine tyre checks, pressure monitoring, and wear inspections. Job Overview
The Tyre Technician will be responsible for performing detailed inspections and maintenance of pneumatic, foam-filled, and solid tyres used in mobile plant operations. This includes checking air pressure, inspecting for wear or damage, assisting with tyre replacements, and maintaining safety standards during preventive maintenance procedures. The role also involves coordination with foremen and ensuring compliance with operational and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct regular inspections of all mobile plant equipment tyres for wear, pressure, and damage
* Ensure pneumatic tyres are inflated as per manufacturer s specifications
* Identify and report tyre issues such as abnormal wear patterns or damage
* Perform tyre replacements using appropriate machines and lifting equipment
* Support preventive maintenance by checking tyres and providing feedback for replacements
* Maintain accurate records of inspections and report findings to the foreman
* Assist with outgoing vehicle checks, including tyre condition and expiry validation
* Maintain cleanliness and safety across all work areas
* Follow daily operational tasks to ensure uninterrupted workshop activity
* Step in as Foreman when delegated, ensuring workflow continuity and team coordination
Job Requirements
* Secondary school completion with a 6-month technical course or High School diploma
* Minimum 1 year of experience, preferably in a shipyard or industrial vehicle environment
* Basic knowledge of tyre wear indicators, expiry, and tread patterns
* Skilled in using jacks, tyre machines, and tyre repair tools for both tubeless and tube tyres
* Ability to follow engineering principles and workplace safety procedures
* Experience in lifting equipment and safely handling tyre replacements
* Willingness to attend training as required and adapt to department needs
