The Plant Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining all essential mechanical, electrical, and utility systems that support the hotel’s infrastructure, including power generation, water treatment, sewage treatment, HVAC, and other facility systems. Working in a remote island environment, the operator plays a vital role in ensuring the uninterrupted functionality of hotel services and the safety of guests and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor generators, desalination plants, sewage treatment plants, boilers, air compressors, chillers, and related systems.
- Regularly inspect all equipment for proper functioning and record performance data such as operating temperatures, pressures, water levels, and energy usage.
- Conduct start-up, shutdown, and changeover procedures for all major systems.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to reduce equipment breakdowns and extend machinery lifespan.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; carry out basic mechanical and electrical repairs.
- Collaborate with the engineering team and external contractors for major maintenance or installations.
- Ensure continuous and efficient production of potable water through reverse osmosis/desalination systems.
- Maintain appropriate chemical dosing for water treatment to meet safety and environmental standards.
- Monitor diesel fuel levels and generator operations to ensure consistent power supply, especially during peak demand or outages.
- Maintain accurate logs of plant operations, maintenance activities, fuel consumption, and water/electricity production levels.
- Report abnormalities or potential failures to the Chief Engineer for timely action.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols in plant operations, using PPE and adhering to safety measures.
- Respond swiftly to equipment failure or utility outages, participate in emergency drills, and contribute to contingency planning.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Technical diploma or trade certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in plant operations, preferably in a hotel, resort, or remote facility.
- Proven experience operating power generators (diesel or hybrid systems), desalination or water treatment plants, sewage treatment systems, HVAC, and refrigeration systems.
- Basic knowledge of electrical wiring, mechanical fittings, and control systems.
