Today, nearly 200 people around the globe work on Speechify in a 100% distributed setting. Our team includes frontend and backend engineers, AI research scientists, and professionals from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, with backgrounds from Stanford, Stripe, Vercel, Bolt, and other startups.

Overview

With the growth of our Android app, the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, we seek a Senior Android Engineer to support our expanding user base and work on exciting new projects to push us forward.

This is a key role for someone who thinks strategically, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is passionate about making product decisions and delivering excellent user experiences.

Our interview process includes several technical interviews, typically completed within 1 week.

• Own major features and collaborate with design to deliver high-quality functionality
• Shape the future of the Android team
• Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
• Participate in cross-team discussions (Product, Design, Engineering)
• Review pull requests and support teammates
• Address critical issues and handle unexpected challenges
• Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA

• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• Familiarity with Android components
• Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
• Product design intuition and user empathy
• Drive to advance Android UI/UX
• Understanding of testing and approach to writing tests
• Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
• Strong Kotlin experience (Kotlin, Coroutines, Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit)
• User-oriented problem solving
• Ability to work with feedback from leaders

• Experience contributing to open source Android projects
• Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS

Salary: United States-based range is 140,000–200,000 USD/year + bonus + stock, depending on experience
