Job description

UX/UI Design Learner Program (MiCanvas) | UluntuXD – 2026 Intake

NB: This programme is a learning and skills development opportunity, not an employment offer.

UluntuXD recognises that young people are not always in a hurry, in fact, many are working against time. Families age, responsibilities grow, and the window to convert potential into progress can feel increasingly narrow.

In reflecting on the outcomes of the MiCanvas programme, UluntuXD made a deliberate decision: a certificate of completion is not enough. For this reason, the programme places strong emphasis on a letter of service and a structured learnership, ensuring that learners leave with tangible industry experience and a credible portfolio of evidence.

The programme is intentionally designed to offer more than technical instruction. MiCanvas provides an experience rooted in empowerment and dignity, including a paid opportunity following the training period, exposure to industry practitioners, and sustained mentorship within a community where excellence is the standard, not the exception.

To preserve depth, quality, and meaningful participation, the MiCanvas cohort is intentionally delivered in person at 27 Boxes Melville, within the UluntuXD studio, from Monday to Friday. This setting reflects the real world of work, where learners engage not only with mentors and facilitators, but also collaborate closely with UluntuXD’s design and development teams.

Learning is delivered through structured learning blocks and the cohort is capped at 55 learners, ensuring a focused and immersive experience. From day one, learners are embedded in real-world practice, working on live client projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams such as software developers, and operating within a real agile delivery environment. Learning is not simulated; it is applied, iterative, and continuous.

MiCanvas is structured to develop capability through experience, preparing learners not only to understand design, but to practice it with confidence, professionalism, and impact. Every aspect of the programme is designed to ensure that each learner is seen, supported, and accelerated

Program Structure

The MiCanvas UX/UI Design Learner Program is a full-time, structured learning and development programme delivered in two defined phases:

Phase 1: UX/UI Design Training (6 months)

  • Full-time training in Experience Design (UX, UI, CX, and Research)
  • Facilitated learning sessions, practical assignments, reviews, and assessments
  • Strong emphasis on real-world application, professional conduct, and portfolio development

Phase 2: Paid Learnership (3 months)

  • All learners who successfully complete the 6-month training phase are automatically enrolled into a paid 3-month learnership
  • This progression is guaranteed, subject to successful completion of Phase 1
  • The learnership provides supervised, practical experience and income support

Not a hope.

Not a maybe.

A guarantee.

Because for those three months, income means dignity.

It means waking up, getting dressed, and saying, “I’m going to work.”

That moment keeps hope alive.
