Job Description
  1. Log received samples into the SLIMS using work orders from the client.
  2. Print sample labels.
  3. Ensure samples are sorted correctly before labeling and boxing.
  4. Follow all quality directives of this Department.
  5. Weigh prills using a micro-balance and record the weights in the SLIMS.
  6. Lock the prills away in the safe at the end of the shift.
  7. Perform nickel sulphide leaches and/or other similar Wet Chemical techniques by accurately following written procedures.
  8. Operate laboratory instrumentation such as LECO analysers.
  9. Bring all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the Chemist.
  10. Adhere to all quality, health and safety rules and regulations.
  11. Ensure that the housekeeping in the receiving area as well as the micro-balance room is in order.
  12. Comply and conform to Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
  13. Record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments.
  14. Work in other areas and/or Divisions if asked to do so.
  15. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Qualifications
  1. Education
  • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry
  • Grade 12, with Mathematics and Science
  • Experience
    • 3 years laboratory experience
    • Competent in logging of samples and working with CClas.
    • A responsible person to work with prills.
    • Able to perform various wet chemical techniques.
    • LIMS administration and operation.
    • Experience in instrumentation, data collection, and reporting.
  • Competencies
    • Full understanding of the LIMS system.
    • Computer Literate (Microsoft Office).
    • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Works well under pressure.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
