Job description
Overview

A specialist engineering company in the East Rand manufacturing modular process plants is seeking an experienced Structural / Civil Engineer registered with ECSA. The company designs and delivers pilot plants, test facilities, demonstration plants, and full-scale modular production plants across the mining, metallurgical, oil & gas, petrochemical, and food & beverage sectors.

They offer a fully integrated engineering and fabrication service — from front-end engineering and design (FEED), through detailed design, manufacturing, packaging, shipping, site installation, commissioning, and after-sales support. Their engineering team works closely with clients to deliver high-quality modular systems that are safe, scalable, rapidly deployable, and cost-effective.

The ideal candidate must have strong experience in steel structures, modular structural design, and the ability to integrate engineering solutions across multiple project phases. Attention to detail, technical accuracy, and the ability to work independently are essential.

Minimum Requirements
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • ECSA registration (BEng or BTech Eng) – mandatory
  • Extensive experience in steel structures
  • Strong experience in modular structures (skids, frames, platforms, modular plants)
  • Experience in mining, petrochemical, oil & gas, or modular plant environments
  • Proficiency in structural design software (Prokon, AutoCAD, Revit or similar)
  • Ability to provide engineering sign-off and ensure compliance with SANS standards
  • Strong understanding of fabrication, manufacturing, and installation processes
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, analyse, and review steel and modular structures for process plants
  • Provide engineering sign-off in accordance with ECSA requirements
  • Prepare structural calculations, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Integrate with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, piping, electrical, fabrication)
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and structural assessments
  • Ensure compliance with SANS standards, building regulations, and client specifications
  • Support projects from FEED through detailed design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning
  • Work closely with fabricators, tradesmen, and project managers to ensure quality, cost, and timelines are met
  • Apply strong attention to detail and uphold engineering best practices
  • Deliver solutions quickly and accurately in a fast-paced project environment
