SUMMARY

LEAD ENGINEER- MECHANICAL

POSITION INFO: Employer Description

Multi disciplinary consultants specializing in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Water Engineering.

Job Description
  • Oversee the design, coordination, and delivery of components for municipal and industrial water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical leadership.
  • Guide multidisciplinary teams, and ensure that mechanical systems including pumping, treatment processes, process related , chemical feed, and distribution / collection infrastructure are designed for safety, efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term reliability.
  • Conduct assessments of existing treatment and distribution systems to identify deficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, and cost-estimating activities.
  • Support the development of asset management plans and condition assessments.
  • Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, and equipment proposals for compliance with project requirements.
  • Contribute to proposal development, scope definition, and project scheduling.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, including piping systems, pumps, valves, blowers, chemical feed equipment, and process-related machinery.
  • Perform engineering calculations for pump sizing, pipe hydraulics, pressure losses, mechanical loads, and equipment performance.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and technical reports for municipal and industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and process engineers to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Ensure designs meet national regulations as well as industry standards.
  • Support permitting efforts and ensure documentation aligns with regulatory expectations.
  • Prepare and present technical information to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for mechanical systems such as large pumping units, blowers, aeration equipment, sludge handling systems, chemical feed systems, and process piping.
  • Act as mechanical discipline lead or project engineer on medium- to large-scale projects.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, and clients.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including responding to RFI’s, reviewing change orders, and performing site inspections.
  • Oversee mechanical system installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Assist with start-up and operator training for mechanical process equipment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Related Master’s an added advantage).
  • ECSA Registered Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Technologist (Pr Tech Eng)
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a focus on water / wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and distribution / collection systems.
Skills
  • Strong proficiency with CAD platforms and design review tools (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks).
  • Advanced understanding of pump station design, piping systems, blower and aeration systems, HVAC for process facilities, and chemical feed equipment.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic modelling tools (e.g., WaterGEMS, KY Pipe) and energy optimization principles.
