Job Objective
- Support the ConstructionManager in the management and supervision of all construction and pre-commissioning activities on the project:Safely, complying with statutory requirements and thecompany Health, Safety and Environmental, (HSE), policies, manuals, andprocedures.
- To agreed qualitystandards and Client’s satisfaction, Within budget, On-time, With harmoniousIndustrial Relations
Key Responsibilities
- Have primeresponsibility for the implementation and enforcement of the project Health,Safety and Environmental, (HSE), policy, procedures, and plans in closecooperation with the HSE Advisors on the project.
- Responsible to identifypotential HSE hazards in your area together with contractors working in thearea and ensuring implementation of risk treatment plans by the contractors inconsultation with the assigned HSE Advisor to your area.
- Have primeresponsibility in liaison with the Site Quality Coordinator and SiteEngineering, for quality of work in your area, in particular:
- Assists in planningconstruction methods and procedures. Coordinate’s engineering or constructionproblems with the Construction Manager.
- Interprets engineeringdrawings.
- Review design drawings,study and resolve Interference problems and review related vendor drawings andinstallation instructions.
- Check the acceptabilityof the methods and practices proposed by the contractor.
- Assist in the resolvingof Technical Queries.
- Inspect the contractor’sworks to ensure that acceptable work standards are achieved.
- Monitor installation ofmaterials and equipment to ensure conformance with drawings and specifications.
- Monitor the activitiesof contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
- Ensure that theSubcontractor correctly interprets drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Check equipment before release tothe contractor advising the Materials Controller of any defects or where damagehas occurred.
- Complete Construction Punch lists asrequired by the Project and ensures that these Punch Lists are cleared withoutdelay.
- Recording of all “as-built”information by the requirements of the Contract.
- Liaise with Quantity Surveyor andensure opportunity is given for measurement of all works in ample time.
- A detailed Daily Diary recording allmatters pertaining to the contract, including instructions given, the day’swork areas, manning levels, equipment in use, problem areas, safety issues,industrial relations issues.
- Records of equipment and materialdeliveries.
- Records of drawings required andTechnical Queries.
- Monitor contractor progress againstschedule and report slippages to the Construction Manager. Propose measures tocontractor and Construction Manager on how to recover lost time and to maintaina schedule.
- Monitoring the delivery and supplyof all free issue materials to the contractor
Qualifications
- S3 or S4 with at least 5years’ experience on multi-disciplinary projects
- Junior B Eng. or B Techrequiring practical experience before registration as PR Eng./PR Tech
Knowledge, skills, and experience
- At least 10 years’ experience in theconstruction industry on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Have a thorough understanding of theOHS Act, Mines Health and Safety Act, and SANS 10142
- Good engineering knowledge.
- Be competent in cable sizing and agood understanding of electrical calculations
- Be familiar with Intelligent motor starters,variable speed drives, and PLC systems
- Have a thorough understanding of safeswitching practices, from HV to LV
- Have a thorough understanding ofpermit to work practices and lockout procedures
- Understanding of cost and financial implicationsof decisions made, as these relate to a project.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Be able to read and understandelectrical and other technical drawings
- Solid knowledge of constructioncontracts.
- Torough understanding ofconstruction methodologies in his discipline.
- Highly literate to ensure theclearest communication both verbally and written.
- Computer literate and knowledgeableon MS Word, Excel, MS Project.
- Torough knowledge of and hands-onexperience with the development and monitoring of schedules
