Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Johannesburg is seeking a skilled metallurgical engineer to lead and assist in the design and preparation of specifications for metallurgical process plants. The successful candidate will have a strong technical understanding of extractive metallurgy and will manage project cost estimates to evaluate feasibility. Responsibilities include advising operations for optimization, ensuring deliverables meet client expectations, and contributing to project documentation. A bachelor's degree in Chemical or Metallurgical engineering and ECSA registration are required.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Lead / assist in the design and preparation of specifications for metallurgical process plants
  • Have a high level of technical understanding in extractive metallurgy
  • Lead / assist in the cost estimation (capital and operating) of projects to evaluate their economic feasibility
  • Advise operations personnel on process changes required to optimize or expand pre-existing circuits
  • Interact with Clients / Client’s representatives to ensure quality and cost-effective deliverables in a timely manner
  • Have an understanding of diverse cultures and/or complex environments given the international nature of the business
  • Coordinate the collection of suitable samples for metallurgical test work purposes
  • Accountable to provide designated process engineering teams with appropriate quality and best practice in process engineering
  • Accountable for the preparation of designated study, project and proposal documents to ensure quality and accuracy of information
  • Accountable to ensure delivery of process services to designated study, project and proposal teams on or ahead of schedule and on or under budget
  • Accountable to participate in and contribute to the change process within the Process Group
  • Develop and manage metallurgical test work programs carried out by a third‑party laboratory
  • Ensure quality of documentation and process information provided
  • Adhere to deadlines
  • Ensure client satisfaction as a measure of alignment with client needs
  • Contribute to AMEC Foster Wheeler’s success in securing business and maintaining profitability
  • Contribute to enhancement of value-adding outputs and positive teamwork within the Process Group
  • Contribute to the extent to which change is championed within the Process Group
