Job Description
Design Responsibilities
- Compile and generate 2D design drawings, documents or accurate unencumbered 3D models.
- Obtain engineering information.
- Utilise computerised filing and numbering system.
- Conceptualise layout.
- Generate design drawings, documents and detailed 3D models requiring minimal rectification and back drafting following checking.
Compliance
Perform tasks in compliance with Company Systems, Standards and Procedures: adhere to standards.
Image & Team Cohesion
- Actively promote the company's professional image, both internally & externally.
- Build an ongoing service relationship with contractors and vendors to enhance company image.
- Maintain effective inter‑departmental communication.
Administration
- Maintain personal administration.
- Manage man‑hour budgets for the discipline.
Staff Management
- Develop and guide junior drawing office staff.
Technical Performance
- Perform site visits.
- Perform design calculations.
- Check engineering 2D drawings or 3D models.
- Give feedback to draughtsperson for changes.
Qualifications
- Completed N6 and gained practical work experience in mineral processing plants.
Skills and Experience
- A proven track record of minimum 8 years-plus experience in discipline specific drawing design/draughting within a mineral processing or petrochemical plant projects environment, preferably in an EPCM environment.
- Experience balanced between feasibility studies, project execution and site‑based work/visits.
- Technical draughting: ability to generate graphical deliverables from an engineering design.
- CAE software: Ability to use software including setting up systems, procedures and guidelines, e.g. AutoCAD.
- Engineering and draughting: knowledge of models and/or draughting environments including applications/interfaces and products across disciplines.
- Legislation & standards: knowledge of sector specific law and standard specifications and ability to integrate these standards.
- Regular interface with other drawing office disciplines to resolve matters/clashes/interfaces.
- Frequent requests for information or inputs required to advance work from engineers or Project Section Leader.
- Periodically questions incorrect or sub‑optimal designs/solutions and proposes alternatives.
- Very dedicated and committed to project and company success.
- Take deadlines seriously and submit reasons and action plans well in advance if deadlines cannot be met.
- Can work independently most of the time with minimal guidance and direction.
- Held in high esteem by colleagues and seen as knowledgeable in his/her discipline; often approached by peers for advice or guidance.
