SAIPA Trainee Accountant

We are a remote firm which means we do not have permanent office space, so you would need to be comfortable working from home - or when required at our client's offices.

Position Overview

We are seeking a SAIPA Trainee Accountant to join our team as a remote work engagement. This role is ideal for a candidate who is pursuing or has recently completed a SAIPA-accredited program and is eager to gain practical experience in the accounting field.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior accountants and other team members to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and efficient processing of financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Audit and Independent Reviews – Familiarity with International Standards on Auditing (ISA) and local auditing regulations.
  • Knowledge of procedures required for limited assurance engagements.
  • Ability to identify key financial risks and weaknesses in internal controls.
  • Recording findings in audit files and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Accounting and Bookkeeping – Assist in maintaining accurate records of financial transactions by updating accounts daily.
  • Prepare and process invoices, receipts, and other financial documents.
  • Reconcile bank statements and financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Financial Reporting – Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Tax and Compliance – Assist with VAT submissions, PAYE, and other statutory returns.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations and deadlines.
  • Support Services – Collaborate with team members on budgeting and forecasting.
  • Provide administrative support to senior accountants as needed.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Enrolled in or recently completed a SAIPA-accredited program.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage One or similar).
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite, particularly Excel.
