Overview

A vacancy exists for a Renal Qualified Registered Nurse in our Renal Dialysis Unit at Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital reporting to the Unit Manager. The unit offers a full range of life‑supporting treatments used in the management of renal failure. The successful candidate will ensure effective delivery of quality patient care and be part of a professional team striving for the highest standards of healthcare in a high‑tech environment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct basic renal duties as allocated by the Unit Manager.
  • Assist the unit to meet the requirements of quality patient care.
  • Exercise timely and accurate report writing.
  • Accurate charging for the utilisation of renal consumables.
  • Assessment of patient’s dry weight and dialysis prescription.
  • Ensure all dialysis procedures are carried out using clean techniques and within Life Healthcare guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures of the Hospital and Life Healthcare.
  • Knowledge of renal water treatment systems (reverse osmosis).
  • Understand the importance of dialysis machine and R.O. disinfection and water testing.
  • Assist with patient education – renal dietary support, chronic medication and basic social support (liaise and arrange professional social support whenever necessary).
  • Knowledge and experience with both chronic and acute dialysis treatments (HD, CRRT, plasmapheresis, peritoneal dialysis).
  • Maintain and manage an environment in which excellent patient care is rendered.
Requirements
  • Valid SANC registration.
  • Post‑registration renal qualification.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in chronic and acute dialysis environments.
  • Willingness to work flexi‑hours, nights, days, and on shift duty.
  • Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a continuously changing environment.
