Sandtech is a fast-growing scale-up that builds large asset AI Applications for blue chip companies. Currently we deliver across three continents and multiple industry verticals. The business has 200+ scientists and engineers based in South Africa, the UK and India and currently work in the Utilities, Telco, Healthcare, Insurance and Investment sectors.

To achieve this we are on the journey to becoming a product-led company, taking the lessons from solutions we’ve built and creating roadmaps for new product development. Our Chief Product Officer and Stakeholders are building product teams and creating domain roadmaps.

We are creating cross-functional Product teams in each of our industry domains with strong alignment between a Product Manager and design, engineering and data science. This role requires a strong combination of technical knowledge, design & business acumen, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and deliver exceptional products that meet market needs and align with our company's goals.

As a Product Designer you will be responsible for a set of products within an industry. This includes the following activities.

Product Design:

• Creating wireframes and detailed designs within the existing design system
• Support design activities by collaborating with Business Analysts, Data Scientists & Developers directly in your team and Lead Product Designers & Product Managers
• Test and iterate on designs to improve the user experience
• Present and advocate for design decisions to stakeholders and users
• Gather and evaluate user requirements, by facilitating workshops sessions
• Ensure that designs meet business goals and technical constraints
• Identify and troubleshoot UX problems
• Keep updated design processes and workflows
• Stay up-to-date on the latest design trends and technologies
• Considering the ethical implications of design decisions, and designing products and services that are responsible and beneficial to society
• Maintaining and adding to the design libraries and documentation

User Research:

• Support user research activities such as: user interviews, focus groups, surveys and usability testing
• Conducting user research to understand user needs and pain points, and using this information to inform design decisions
• Developing and maintaining user personas
• Creating and using user journey maps
• Conducting competitive analysis
• Advocating for user-centred design

The ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should have a problem-solving mindset with design & user experience expertise, who wants to shape the growth of a major global scale-up. They should have a product mindset - with unwavering user focus and drive for scalability and shaping the growth of a global-scale platform.

• Proven 3+ years experience as a Product Designer, with a track record of successfully bringing products to life in a dynamic environment
• Product experience with B2B products and relationships
• Experience in designing data heavy applications
• Strong understanding of product design methodologies and tools
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Analytical mindset with a strong systems thinking capabilities
• Project design skills and the ability to support cross-functional teams
• An inclination towards action and clarity
• Strong foundational understanding development principles spanning front-end implementation and database structures
• Experience in the water utilities industry is a bonus
