Permitting Practitioner – Job Description

As the Permitting Practitioner, you will provide high‑level administrative support to the Mineral Rights team to administer matters related to mineral rights, permitting, and property transactions. Your responsibilities include record‑keeping, permit management, data administration, reporting, and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental practices and requirements.
  • Escalate unsafe practices or risks to the direct supervisor or manager.
  • Support the Principal and Specialists Mineral Rights with permit management and property transactions, including filing, tracking, and compliance monitoring.
  • Maintain and update the IT tools (Isometrix, SORD, LandFolio) and ensure dashboards and data capture are accurate and timely.
  • Assist with compiling time‑based reports on rights commitments and obligations, and provide action logs and monthly reports for Group Permitting.
  • Maintain accurate, organized records related to mineral rights, permitting, and property transactions, and ensure confidentiality and secure storage of documents.
  • Monitor and ensure timely permit renewal processes and support compliance with Anglo American and external legislative and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • Relevant higher national qualification in business administration, environmental management, or a related discipline (NQF Level 5).
  • A paralegal qualification will be advantageous.
  • Valid SA driver’s licence.
Technical Knowledge
  • 3‑5 years of relevant experience in administration of mineral rights and permitting management within a mining environment.
  • Experience administering licenses and permits.
  • Knowledge of the mining industry and foundational understanding of mining and environmental laws and related legislation.
