Requirements
  • Minimum Requirements: Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent. MBBCh/ MBCHB, Medical Specialist in Emergency Medicine Department. Active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Emergency Medicine. Registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Emergency Medicine for Grade 1. Grade 2: 5 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist in Emergency Medicine after registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Emergency Medicine. Grade 3: 10 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist in Emergency Medicine after registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Emergency Medicine; Inherent requirements of the job: Participate in the after-hours call system (Commuted overtime is compulsory).
  • Knowledge, Skills, Attributes and Abilities: sound clinical knowledge and experience in Emergency Medicine; Knowledge of Human Resource Management, Information Management and Quality Assurance Programs; Knowledge of current Health and Public Service Legislation, Regulations and Policies; Knowledge of Medical Ethics, batch knowledge of budget control, epidemiology and statistics; Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills; Ability to supervise, train and mentor medical officers and other junior staff.
Duties
  • Participate in delivery of 24-hour Emergency Department services at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital.
  • Participate in the development and supervision of medical officers, community service and interns.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the HOU on the development of clinical protocols, their implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Assist with the maintenance of standards of care and implementation of quality improvement programmes within the department.
  • Conduct self-directed learning to expand knowledge base and skills.
  • Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (Contracting, reviews and final assessment).
