Job summary

A leading automotive manufacturing employer is seeking a Mechanical Quality Engineer on a temporary contract (approximately 2 years) to join their Quality Assurance team in Gqeberha. The role involves ensuring that motor vehicle components perform to specification throughout their lifecycle. Key responsibilities include initiating qualification programmes, driving continuous improvement, and providing technical expertise on parts. Candidates must have a National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of motor vehicle components, their functions, specifications, manufacturing processes, and testing methods.
  • Strong technical understanding of motor vehicle systems and components.

Department: QA – Purchased Parts • Division: Quality Assurance

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading automotive manufacturing employer for a MECHANICAL QUALITY ENGINEER (TEMP) to join their Quality Assurance team, focusing on purchased motor vehicle components.

About the Opportunity

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that motor vehicle components consistently perform to specification throughout their full lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:

  • Initiating and managing qualification programmes for new part introductions
  • Driving continuous improvement by identifying root causes of part deviations and implementing corrective actions across all lifecycle phases
  • Testing and evaluating parts against defined specifications
  • Providing technical expertise on complete parts with regard to material and functional performance
  • Initiating design improvements to resolve complex component-related issues
  • Managing and initiating local and CKD supplier claims
  • Supporting quality assurance activities related to purchased parts
About You – Essential Requirements
  • National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience within a manufacturing environment
  • In-depth knowledge of motor vehicle components, their functions, specifications, manufacturing processes, and testing methods
  • Strong technical understanding of motor vehicle systems and components
  • Proven experience with quality tools such as DOE, SPC, FMEA, and 8D methodologies
  • Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Ability to communicate and present effectively at all levels, both internally and externally (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s licence
