An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Mining and Metal business line and be involved in the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical systems supporting mining operations. This often spans greenfield and brownfield projects, heavy equipment, and compliance with strict safety and operational standards. This position is based in Gauteng. Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical design and review for mining infrastructure (conveyors, crushers, mills, pumps, piping, workshops).
  • Construction supervision and contractor management.
  • Equipment selection, procurement support, and vendor evaluation.
  • Installation, commissioning, and handover of mechanical systems.
  • QA/QC inspections and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical failures during construction and ramp‑up.
  • Cost control, schedule tracking, and progress reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance with HSE and mining regulations.
Qualifications and Skills Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in mining, heavy industrial, or large‑scale construction projects.
  • Professional registration (or progress towards): ECSA (South Africa) / Pr. Eng. / Pr. Tech. Eng. (strong advantage).
  • Proven experience in mining construction projects (underground or open‑pit operations).
  • Experience through at least one full project lifecycle (design – construction – commissioning).
  • Familiarity with engineering standards: ASME, ISO, SANS, API (depending on project/country).
  • Mechanical design and drafting review (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical installation tolerances and alignment.
