Organizational Overview

Synchrony's Risk Team provides independent oversight of Synchrony’s risk-taking activities to ensure safety and soundness, meet regulatory and legal requirements, and manage risks to the risk-appetite of the Board. Risk is responsible for independently assessing, quantifying, and overseeing risks & providing effective challenge. Risk serves as Synchrony’s Second Line of Defense.

Overall, Risk Team oversees and manages the Risk Program to support the business in anticipating and addressing risks, issues, and challenges. Results are consistent with the respective strategic uses and complying with related overall risk, risk testing policies, standards, procedures as well as regulations. Our Risk organization consists of 4 pillars: Compliance, Credit & Financial Risk, Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk. Each of the pillars play a vital role in managing Risk and supports the business in anticipating and addressing risks, issues, and challenges.

Role Summary/Purpose

The Manager, Strategy Oversight Analytics is primarily a support role for completing cyclical validations of existing strategies and related Non-model Tools (NMT) across products and platforms and throughout each of the strategy functions, including Acquisition/Early Lifecycle, Account Management and Collections & Recovery environments. The primary objective will include assisting with the completion of the NMT Control Requirement assessments as part of these validations. Secondarily, the role will help conduct ad-hoc or deep-dive analyses to evaluate the significance of concerns related to new strategy proposals or modifications, regulatory requests, or other trends as necessary.

The role will report to India CSV Lead with a dotted line of reporting to the VP - Credit Strategy Validation within the Credit Strategy Validation (CSV) organization. This is an individual contributor role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support strategy validations and NMT reviews by completing assessments on the NMT Control Requirements, aligned to the approach as outlined within the NMT Policy and Standards.
  • Collaborate with relevant Strategy and Portfolio Credit teams to collect necessary artifacts, documents, and evidence required for comprehensive validations and NMT testing.
  • Support the validation of existing Credit strategies by assessing the effectiveness of criteria and the performance of champion/challenger (test/control) strategies where applicable. This includes comparing expected versus actual outcomes, verifying correct implementation, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation, and evaluating the appropriateness of strategy monitoring practices.
  • Utilize advanced technical skills to translate documented strategy criteria into SAS/SQL code (or other programming languages as needed) to execute validations accurately.
  • Perform data extraction and data preparation to facilitate thorough analysis as part of the review.
  • Assist in documenting validation results by assisting with the preparation of detailed white papers and reports. These documents will be shared with first, second, and third line stakeholders, regulators, and Senior Leadership, and used to identify issues and other quality improvement opportunities across the reviewed strategies.
  • Conduct ad-hoc or deep-dive analyses to evaluate the significance of concerns related to new strategy proposals or modifications, regulatory requests, or other trends as necessary.
  • Support the broader Credit Strategy Validation (CSV) team by maintaining the PORAS (Perpetual Oversight Risk Automation Suite) platform, including coding, and inserting completed validations into the automation system and investigating alerts triggered within the platform.
  • Contribute to additional projects, as required, to support team objectives.
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years’ experience in a consumer credit/risk analytics role; OR, in lieu of Bachelor’s degree, 4+ years’ experience in consumer credit/risk analytics role.
  • 2+ years’ experience with SAS/SQL or other transferable logic-based programming.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with impact and influence.
  • Strong understanding of the consumer credit lending lifecycle and card programs.
Desired Skills/Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM related or Business field.
  • MBA or Master’s degree in a STEM field.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, organize workflow, and prioritize work assignments.
  • Advanced reasoning skills in conjunction with an intimate understanding of how our strategy systems work and how their outflows tie into the data warehouse.
  • Elevated aptitude in deciphering and interpreting strategy documentation and criteria and the ability to translate that into independently created logic.
  • Commercially effective and collaborative across teams and functions.
  • Intermediate EXCEL skill set.
  • Proactive and curious.
Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience in analytics and in lieu of a degree 4+ years of analytics experience required.

Work Timings

2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST. This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility and Choice offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
