Job summary

A prominent manufacturing company based in Port Shepstone is seeking a Maintenance Specialist. The successful candidate will ensure the efficient and safe maintenance of machinery, minimizing downtime and maximizing production. Responsibilities include maintenance operations, compliance with standards, and planning of resources. Required qualifications include a Matric with Mathematics and an N5 in Electrical / Mechanical engineering, along with 5 years maintenance experience. Proficiency in SAP is essential. This is a full-time role.

Qualifications

  • 5 years maintenance experience preferably in heavy engineering.
  • 5 years experience on shutdown planning and weekly plant maintenance planning.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal prescriptions and constraints.
  • Manage work order backlog to prevent recurrence of failures.
  • Plan resources for plant outages and produce a detailed plan.

Skills

Extremely good communications and organizing skills

Overview

Our client, a leading Manufacturing / Production company based in Port Shepstone, is looking to fill the position of Maintenance Specialist.

Purpose of the Role : Reporting to the Preventative Maintenance Manager, the successful incumbent will be responsible for defining methodology, manpower, spares and other resources, and the work program necessary to achieve efficient and safe maintenance in line with technical standards. Furthermore, to ensure the smooth operation of machinery and equipment, minimizing downtime and maximizing production.

Responsibilities

Maintenance Operations :

  • Maintenance of the entire factory and mining by ensuring safe operations and reliability as per company standards.
  • Planning of weekly and major shutdown maintenance.
  • Define the detailed methodology for carrying out all the maintenance activities according to priorities and the required skills, resources, coordination and supervision.
  • Coordinate and ensure that all spare parts and people skills are available to undertake planned operations and meet the required quantity and quality.
  • Optimize resource utilization using capacity planning and continuously review work backlog to optimize the utilization of plant resources using SAP capacity planning.
  • Coordinate the gathering of equipment specifications and bill of materials to use systematic records and forward the equipment specification and bill of materials to improve the use of SAP as a maintenance tool.
  • Gather technical information monthly using artisans’ knowledge and SAP information on bills of materials.
  • Manage work order backlog to prevent the recurrence of failures by identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
  • Plan resources for plant outages, determine constraints, coordinate availability of resources, ensure adherence to operation priorities, and produce a detailed plan and schedule.
  • Accumulate all plant maintenance orders pertaining to the categories: regular maintenance, condition-based maintenance, SHE orders, project orders, refurbishment orders that have been allocated to a revision, namely a planned outage date.

Compliance :

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal prescriptions and constraints.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company statutory and legal requirements by studying and understanding requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with SHEQ.
  • Enforce adherence to these compliance requirements.
  • Advising management on any needed actions.

Team Work :

  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics.
  • Minimum of SAQA Accredited N5 in an Electrical / Mechanical engineering discipline or recognised technical qualification for Engineering.
  • 5 years maintenance experience preferably in heavy engineering.
  • 5 years experience on shutdown planning and weekly plant maintenance planning.
  • Fluent in English (reading and writing).
  • Extremely good communications and organizing skills.
  • Proficiency in SAP MRP System.
  • Must be Computer Literate (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook).

Advantageous :

  • Recognised Trade test advantageous.
  • Construction experience.
