Minimum Experience
At least 5 years (post trade test) general maintenance experience gained in a production environment preferably in water and wastewater treatment works.
Key Outputs
Reporting to the Area Operations Manager, the appointee will:
- Monitor the execution of electrical, mechanical and civil work allocated by visiting the work sites, attending relevant site meetings, attending to problems which might arise, providing technical expertise and assess the quality of completed work
- Co-ordinate repairs and maintenance to all electrical, mechanical and civil equipment by daily liaison with artisans and utility men to ensure optimum efficiency
- Co-ordinate and meet with contractors and service providers for specialised maintenance services
- Evaluate Artisans monthly breakdown reports and utilisation and report to Area Operations Manager
- Identify plant, equipment requiring major maintenance, costing and planning thereof to ensure optimum efficiency
- Respond to specific requests for maintenance and assisting in the preparation of specifications for repairs by carrying out inspections, assessing and recommending action
- Determine which specialised spares and equipment are necessary for stock purposes considering lead times and delivery times and ensuring such spares are ordered to minimise plant outage time
- Verify that all ordered spares are of the correct quality and quantity to minimise plant outage time
- Identify and ensure all staff are adequately trained with respect to applicable safety regulations in order to create safety awareness amongst staff
- Ensure that all High Voltage work is performed by suitably trained and qualified Amatola staff, Artisans and contractors
- Assist with identifying and prioritizing of minor projects and refurbishments within the maintenance section to ensure correct work allocation and expenditure
- Control all the maintenance sections budgeted expenditure as well as motivating and documenting over expenditure for accurate cost control
- Supervise the manpower utilisation and section requirements ensuring the correct staff compliment within the maintenance section
- Appraise and counselling staff in the section through the organisations performance reviewing policy to increase performance outputs
- Monitor and evaluate work undertaken by contractors and authorize payment
- Carry out reasonable and lawful instructions as given by the line manager/supervisor within the ambit of the position taking into consideration competencies and operational requirements
Key Competencies
- Sound knowledge of maintenance and safety systems (i.e. safety requirements and standards as per OHS Act)
- Good project management skills
- Extensive knowledge and experience of all diverse engineering fields gained in the operations and maintenance of pumps and water treatment equipment including pipelines
- Sound knowledge of the operation and maintenance of wastewater and water purification and distribution equipment
- Computer literacy – spreadsheets, word processing, presentation skills etc.
- Valid unendorsed drivers’ licence
- IR and people Skills
- Good communication skills
- Financial skills
- Good trouble shooting abilities
- Basic Budget Control experience
