Description
The purpose of the role is providing legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice to clients.
- Receive legal files and advise on appropriate action; monitor progress and report to the Board on significant legal cases.
- Deal with cases where tenants take legal action against CPA.
- Dispute resolution and litigation: receive legal files, settle/negotiated disputes where possible, monitor progress and report.
- Ensure and monitor compliance with relevant regulations governing CPA and its clients: identify and prioritise proposed legislation; develop and implement controls; identify and assess changes; monitor and report non‑compliance; recommend corrective measures; monitor adequacy and effectiveness of control measures; report to organisational committees; create awareness and train employees.
- Provide professional advice to the Human Resources Department on labour matters.
- Act as initiator for disciplinary enquiries; provide administrative support for disciplinary hearings; represent the company at CCMA cases.
- Provide legal services for commercial documentation: draft and review agreements; provide legal resolutions for commercial matters; support acquisitions and sales of buildings; ensure properties are registered; review and liaise with Property Managers on bank guarantees.
- Provide professional support and legal advice drafting and advising on documentation: advise on drafting clause agreements and correspondence; assist with queries and interpretation of lease documents; interpret lease agreements and resolve queries; draft standard lease agreement annexures and addendums.

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- LLB Degree required.
- At least 3 years post‑admission experience; ideally in a leading organisation with proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting.
- Admitted attorney required.
Skills & Knowledge Required
- MS Office: MS Word Intermediate, MS Excel Intermediate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the legislation and regulatory laws required.
